Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking shop support in Montrose, CO to assemble and prep fire and life safety system components, support extinguisher rebuilding, and organize materials in a safe shop. This role emphasizes teamwork, tool use, and adherence to safety policies.

Ideal candidates read basic drawings, lift 50+ lbs, and maintain high standards of workmanship. High school diploma and 1+ years of related experience preferred; strong work ethic and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred based on experience.
  • 1+ years of mechanical, warehouse, or construction experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred: Experience in fire protection or life safety systems and familiarity with NFPA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the assembly and preparation of fire and life safety system components and materials.
  • Support fire extinguisher rebuilding and general fabrication activities.
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare equipment and materials for field installation and service.
  • Receive and organize materials and ensure proper storage within the shop.
  • Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and working condition.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials and preparing job shipments.
  • Follow work orders, instructions, and basic drawings to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50+ lbs regularly.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Use of hands and arms for handling tools, materials, and equipment.
Pay Range
  • $20.00 hourly DOE
