Position Summary

Shop Technician is responsible for performing mechanical inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance on customer and rental material handling equipment. This hands-on role involves diagnosing equipment issues, providing efficient repairs, and ensuring excellent customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and has strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical inspections on customer and rental equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Complete equipment repairs in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and obtain customer approval before performing repairs.
  • Open and close required work orders for customer repairs in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain accurate daily time sheets and document all completed work.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on material handling equipment.
  • Order parts for PM, service jobs, warranty repairs, and other maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the company vehicle, reporting any necessary repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area by adhering to required housekeeping practices.
  • Communicate effectively with Sales and Management regarding customer issues.
  • Observe and promote safe work practices and procedures at all times.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks and duties as requested by management.
Physical Demands
  • Stand and/or walk for extended periods, up to a full 8-hour shift.
  • Regularly get in and out of a vehicle and perform kneeling, squatting, bending, and climbing.
  • Lift, carry, and handle heavy items, including tools and parts, weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Work in environments with exposure to industrial noise, fumes, and smoke.
  • Maneuver into tight or awkward locations for equipment inspection or repair.
  • Use hands and fingers to manipulate tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices effectively.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Desire to develop into a Field Service Technician role within the material handling industry.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment.
  • Willingness to learn electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems through hands-on training and mentorship.
  • Basic understanding of how to read and follow technical diagrams, schematics, service manuals, or repair instructions.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment issues through a logical process.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work safely in a shop environment and perform physical job duties, including lifting, bending, standing, and working around industrial equipment.
  • Experience working on vehicles, equipment, machinery, farm equipment, construction equipment, aviation equipment, motorcycles, or other mechanical systems is preferred but not required.
  • Trade school, technical training, military mechanical experience, automotive experience, or hobbyist mechanical experience are all encouraged to apply.
