Job summary

Job description

The Shop Service Paving Technician is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning of paving construction equipment in a shop environment. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are located at 2000 East Airport Freeway, Irving, Texas 75062. CAT Paving Equipment Repair Preferred

Essential Functions
  • Performs repairs and troubleshooting with minimal supervision
  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnoses of paving equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Removes and install parts, disassembles and assembles components, and tests and adjusts assemblies
  • Repairs and/or replaces components according to CAT standards
  • Tests and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job (work order, parts order, Vision Link, DBS, SimsSI, SIS web)
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in good, clean, and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Complete assigned jobs and task to meet/exceed flat rate times and re-do metric standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of complex grade control systems, special software/hardware required for machine communication and diagnoses, intelligent compaction, machine application, asphalt densities, mat deformities, and correct machine operation procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Exceptional skills in customer service
  • Excellent diagnostic and trouble-shooting skills
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources
  • Operation and control skills to control operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, highly stressful, and time constraining circumstances
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • More than one year of heavy equipment experience required; three or more years preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and acceptable driving record preferred
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • None

Travel:

  • Minimal travel expected but could be up to 15% with the possibility of overnight travel

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 lb

  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment:

  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times; occasionally works outdoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
