Job summary

Matrix Service Company seeks a Shop Quality Supervisor to plan, direct, perform and supervise quality control functions at the Bakersfield shop. You will support safety, uphold core values, and provide technical QA/QC expertise including inspections, audits and training.

Responsibilities include NDE testing, third-party inspections coordination, weld maps, welder qualification testing, NCR data management and customer liaison. Strong supervision and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is required.
• LA City Dept of Building and Safety “Quality Control Inspector” certification is preferred.
• 5+ years related experience in QA/QC.
• Current certification in a related discipline specific inspection process (e.g. ASNT Level II, NACE etc.) preferred.
• Thorough working knowledge of regulatory agency quality assurance and quality control activities.
• Experience must have been in steel fabrication.
• Proven ability to supervise personnel and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
• Advance degree or training is desirable.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be proficient in computer skills including use of Microsoft Office products.

• Provides specialized technical expertise in support of the Quality program, including specialized inspection and testing techniques, quality training, statistical methods, audits, quality tools for problem solving and assessment.
• Perform and report on NDE inspections and testing activities.
• Coordinate 3 rd party inspections and review reports for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Prepare, organize, and submit weld maps, record drawings, and final turnover packages.
• Plan, conduct, and document Welder Performance Qualification Testing.
• Maintain shop at an “Audit Ready” condition at all times for certification programs, including ASME and AISC.
• Maintain NCR site and associated activities to provide accurate data to management.
• Act as liaison for customer inspectors or customer representatives that visit the shop location.
• Apply knowledge of quality systems and tools to validate and verify contractually required standards for project execution.
• Maintain presence on shop floor and address quality and safety issues.
• Manage measuring and test equipment calibration activities and storage.
• Perform Quality training to shop personnel, as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining quality standard of products and the procedures and materials that go into work scope. Aligns quality management function with the performance needs of product lines.
• Actively participate in issue resolution and continuous improvement activities.
• Establishes priorities for the completion of assigned tasks. Uses judgment to interpret internal and external issues and develop best practices. May direct resources, prioritize tasks, and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
• Relies upon experience, interpersonal skills, and broad knowledge of field to ensure task completion in compliance with policies, procedures, and business strategy.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances, may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $35.00 per hour to $44.00 per hour
