Job summary

PTS Advance is seeking an experienced QA/QC Supervisor to lead our fabrication shop quality program. You will oversee the Quality Control team, work with welding, fabrication, and engineering to ensure products meet customer and code requirements, and ship with proper documentation.

You will stay hands-on on the shop floor, guiding inspectors and welders, identifying issues early, and driving corrective actions to improve processes and reduce rework, scrap, and delays.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 10+ years of overall experience and/or training in QA/QC.
• 8+ years of Quality Control in fabrication, welding, piping or manufacturing.
• 3+ years of direct reports management experience.
• Welding and piping expertise with ASME codes and NDT familiarity.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and quality documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the Quality Control Inspector team.
• Establish quality expectations and provide technical guidance to shop personnel.

• Apply SPC and quality tools to identify trends.
• Prepare quality reports for management and operations.
• Stay current on ASME, AWS, and industry standards.
• Provide technical support on quality questions.
• Take on other QA/QC responsibilities as needed.

Job description

We’re looking for an experienced QA/QC Supervisor to lead quality efforts within our fabrication shop. This person will oversee the Quality Control team and work closely with fabrication, welding, engineering, and operations to make sure products are built correctly, meet customer and code requirements, and are ready to ship with the proper documentation.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll spend time on the shop floor working with inspectors, welders, fabricators, and supervisors to identify potential issues early, troubleshoot problems, and improve processes. The goal is to build quality into the fabrication process rather than finding problems after the fact.

You’ll also help maintain and improve the shop’s quality program, ensure inspection and testing requirements are being followed, and provide technical guidance on welding, piping, fabrication, and applicable industry standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead, coach, and develop the Quality Control Inspector team.
• Establish clear quality expectations and provide technical guidance to inspectors and shop personnel.
• Oversee day-to-day QA/QC activities throughout the fabrication process.
• Perform and/or coordinate inspections, testing, audits, and quality reviews.
• Work closely with welding and fabrication teams to identify and resolve quality issues as they occur.
• Help ensure First-in Inspection and other inspection processes identify issues early and minimize rework, scrap, and production delays.
• Review fabrication drawings, specifications, procedures, and other technical documentation for quality requirements.
• Ensure welding procedures and welder/brazer qualifications are properly maintained and meet applicable requirements.
• Monitor welding and fabrication activities for compliance with approved procedures and applicable codes and standards.
• Coordinate non‑destructive testing (NDT) activities and review inspection results.
• Investigate non-conformances, determine root causes, and work with operations to implement corrective actions.
• Track recurring quality issues and identify opportunities to improve fabrication processes.
• Audit shop processes to ensure the Quality Control Plan and standard procedures are being followed.
• Work with customers, third‑party inspectors, and other external quality representatives when required.
• Review incoming materials, components, and vendor documentation to verify they meet specified requirements.
• Maintain accurate inspection reports, test records, weld documentation, material certifications, and other quality records.
• Review and approve quality documentation prior to shipment when required.
• Apply statistical process control (SPC) and other quality tools to monitor processes and identify trends.
• Communicate significant quality issues and recommended corrective actions to management.
• Prepare quality reports and provide updates to operations, engineering, and management.
• Help develop and implement process improvements that improve quality, reduce rework, and increase shop efficiency.
• Stay current on applicable ASME, AWS, and other industry codes and standards.
• Provide technical support and guidance to the fabrication team on quality‑related questions.
• Take on other QA/QC responsibilities as needed.

What We’re Looking For

• Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10+ years of overall experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of Quality Control experience within a fabrication, welding, piping, manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.
• Experience with:
• Piping fabrication
• Welding
• ASME B31 piping codes
• ASME Section IX
• Non‑destructive testing (NDT)
• Inspection and testing
• Quality documentation and recordkeeping
• 3+ years of experience leading and managing direct reports.
• Strong understanding of ASME Section IX requirements.
• Experience creating, reviewing, and maintaining welding procedures and welder/brazer qualifications.
• Current AWS certification in accordance with AWS QC-1 as a Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is preferred.
• ICC Mechanical – Commercial Certification is also preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, specifications, procedures, inspection reports, and other technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of fabrication and welding processes and the ability to identify potential quality issues.
• Experience with root‑cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with welders, fabricators, inspectors, supervisors, engineers, customers, and management.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced shop environment and balancing quality requirements with production schedules.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, algebra, and geometry.
