McKenney’s is seeking a Shop Quality Foreman to lead the quality assurance for fabrication projects. The role focuses on enforcing contract requirements, inspecting welds and materials, and guiding a team to uphold McKenney’s quality absolutes throughout fabrication and testing.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years in mechanical contracting and proven foreman experience, with strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a proactive approach to quality and safety on site.

Responsibilities

• Review contract drawings, specifications, and quality requirements against submittals and IOMs
• Identify quality risks and training needs; participate in First of Kind Inspections
• Visually inspect welds to ensure code compliance
• Document trends and coordinate with operations for training
• Lead quality shop walks with project teams to ensure compliance with quality absolutes
• Review new material/equipment arrivals and document deficiencies
• Walk the shop to identify deficiencies and communicate with shops
• Maintain documentation of corrections per standards
• Attend Pre-Task Planning to identify quality risks and best practices
• Capture fabrication progress and ensure identifiers (welds, tags, heat numbers) are tracked

Overview

The Shop Quality Foreman supports the shop team to ensure the quality of project planning, fabrication, and execution is compliant with contract requirements. The Shop Quality Foreman inspects the quality of fabricated work in accordance with customer requirements, contract documents, and company standards at a minimum and stops work in progress if it does not comply. The Shop Quality Foreman identifies areas where the project team can add value for the customer, as well as quality risks, and supports efforts to mitigate them. They build and sustain a strong quality culture where every team member takes quality personally.

Responsibilities

• Be the expert! Demonstrate thorough knowledge of contract requirements/ documents, including contract drawings, specifications, and any other pertinent quality requirements. Review shop drawings, submittals, and IOMs against contract drawings and specifications for compliance and access requirements.
• Participate in First of Kind Inspections to identify quality risks and economization opportunities and ensure proper training and techniques are utilized for future installations.
• Visually inspect welds to ensure all code requirements are met.
• Communicate trends with operations to allow department training and education.
• Work closely with Shop Project Manager to build partnership and anticipate punch items.
• Ensure awareness of McKenney’s Quality Absolutes and McKenney's Best Practices for all craftsmen and lead Quality shop walks with project teams to ensure compliance with the 7 Quality Absolutes.
• Review all new material and equipment arriving at the warehouse or laydown yards and document any deficiencies. This documentation shall be through reports, videos, pictures, programs, and shall be digitally stored in both the customer’s requirements and the project-defined method.
• Walk the shop regularly and document the current state of quality and identify quality deficiencies to shop teams.
• Work productively with any project that requires quality tracking technology and ensure all updates are compliant with the project schedule.
• Know and understand all McKenney’s quality best practices and ensure all are being followed throughout the fabrication process through final release and loading.
• Attend and document all project system testing and ensure the testing meets project and McKenney’s requirements as it pertiman to the completeness, quality, and safety expectations.
• Document all corrections to deficiencies and ensure they are corrected per McKenney’s/Project/Customer standards.
• Regularly communicate recurring deficiencies with Shop Supervisor and Team Lead to allow for more thorough training, coaching, and accountability.
• Complete dimensional and geometric verification to allow shop drawings and spools match.
• Review all first-of-kind work, identify quality improvements, and ensure proper training and techniques are utilized for future installations.
• Regularly participate in Pre-Task Planning sessions to identify and increase awareness of quality risks and best practices associated with daily tasks.
• Capture/ document fabrication progress and quality of completed work to include that every weld is marked, spools are tagged, and material heat numbers are transferred where required.
• Document pressure testing within the Test & Inspection Log in PMConnect/Smartsheet.
• Inspect quality of subcontractor scope to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Review and resolve outstanding Quality Observations.
• Ensure all rework is reported and tracked properly with correct craft, labor, material, and/or subcontract cost. Participate in Root Cause Analysis conversations to learn why significant reworks occur and identify lessons learned, best practices, and moving forward actions. Review outstanding actions and follow up as needed.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• 2+ years of experience in the mechanical contracting field
• Must have experience as a minimum Crew leader/Foreman

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• OSHA-10 or OSHA-30.
• McKenney’s Quality Observation training.
• Corps of Engineers QAQC certification.
• Piping or Plumbing Foreman minimum ranking
• Active member of local Union.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS

• Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
• Work environment involves some exposure to construction, mechanical, and electrical-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions and McKenney’s Safety Absolutes.
• Work may require occasional offsite travel for material inspections
• Moderate physical effort. Requires handling of average weight objects up to 50 pounds and extensive standing and walking.
• Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, and to negotiate work areas under construction.
