Shop Mechanic (Street Sweeping) (Maintenance)

Hours: Monday through Friday from 6 AM to 3 PM

Job Summary:

SCA maintains of fleet of sweepers, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, pickup trucks, trailers, attenuators, and various other support equipment. We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to assemble, maintain and repair machinery and vehicles. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems. An excellent mechanic must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail. They must be able to work with various machines and tools as well as follow all safety precautions.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
  • Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems.
  • Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
  • Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
  • Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned (repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles etc.)
  • Heavy equipment experience preferred.
  • Keep logs of work or use maintenance system to report on issues.

Requirements and Skills

  • Proven experience as Mechanic (3-5 years of experience) with 2 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferred
  • Must have a valid license, CDL A or CDL B is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical, and other systems and their components
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools, shop tools and precision measurement tools (calipers)
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.
  • Must provide own tools for use.
  • A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Very good communication skills.
  • A problem-solving ability.
  • Very good physical strength and stamina. Must have good attitude and attendance practices.
  • High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus.
  • Will need to travel for road calls and to assist at other locations as needed.
  • Valid certification (ASE) is preferred.

  • Minimum of XX years of proven experience as a Mechanic
    • Level A = 8+
    • Level B = 5-7
    • Level C = 2-4
  • Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems
  • Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers)
  • Ability to follow established procedures, read instruction manuals, and wiring schematics
  • Must have basic hand tools for daily use
  • Commitment to adhering to health and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong physical stamina and good overall fitness
  • Positive attitude and reliable attendance
  • High school diploma preferred; certification from a vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus
  • ASE certifications are preferred but not required
