A leading home improvement retailer is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Geismar, LA, responsible for performing basic repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment. The ideal candidate must have at least three years of relevant experience and be able to document work on tablet technology. Successful applicants will also oversee equipment inspections and troubleshoot engine issues as required. Must be legally permitted to work in the U.S. and able to stand or walk continuously.

Job description

Must live within 20 miles of Geismar, LA

Position Purpose

Responsible for basic repairs, preventive maintenance, pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and deployment of machines in the rental fleet, including earth-moving, aerial, landscaping, and material handling equipment. Regular preventive maintenance of equipment is required to ensure that it remains in rental-ready condition, and is less likely to experience breakdowns on the job site.

Key Responsibilities
  • 10% Administrative Work – Documents all work performed on tablet technology, including completion of work orders to capture parts usage and labor, performing parts inventory counts, etc. Checks GPS units on equipment and ensures they are activated and properly checking in, and troubleshoots with IT team as needed. Rescues equipment from job sites as needed.
  • 20% Perform Inspections – Performs aerial lift inspections according to required checklist; cleans equipment and trailers.
  • 30% Perform PMs and PDIs – Performs preventive maintenance (PMs) on equipment according to prescribed schedule/maintenance intervals; performs pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) on equipment and trailers to ensure rental readiness prior to deploying to a store.
  • 30% Perform Troubleshooting & Repairs – Performs troubleshooting and repairs on small engines, including fuel systems, oil and air filtration systems, ignition systems, etc. Changes wheels, tracks, and tires on machines and trailers; performs maintenance and repairs on trailers.
  • 10% Safety – Follows shop safety protocol, including proper storage of supplies and fuel, proper disposal of waste oils and fluids, and proper lifting and moving of materials and equipment. Safely operates forklift to load, unload, and move equipment and materials in the shop and yard.

Travel Requirements
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Must continuously stand or walk or regularly requires lifting/handling/carrying material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
Working Conditions
  • Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
