Job summary

Sudden Service, Inc. in Lynchburg, VA is recruiting a full-time Diesel Mechanic/Hydraulics technician to inspect and repair heavy equipment for the Taylor Machine Works fleet.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing gasoline, diesel, and propane engines, reading blueprints, performing preventative maintenance, and keeping service records. Some welding skills encouraged; three years of field experience preferred. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and pass basic welding tests when offered.

Qualifications

• Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
• Three years of hands-on diesel mechanics and hydraulics experience.
• Welding test encouraged; AWSD14 welding test considered for future promotions.

Responsibilities

• Inspect lift trucks and equipment to determine repairs.
• Perform repairs on gasoline, diesel, and propane engines with minimal instruction.
• Inspect, adjust, and repair components as needed.
• Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems using diagnostic tools.
• Perform preventative maintenance to improve fleet condition and performance.
• Operate equipment to troubleshoot and test as needed.
• Maintain records of maintenance performed.
• Assist parts department in shipping and receiving of motor freight.
• Take service calls and provide assistance when the Service Manager is unavailable.
• Keep garage area clean and maintained.
• Other related duties as required.

• Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems using diagnostic tools.
• Performs preventative maintenance as needed to improve the condition and performance of the fleet.
• Operates equipment to troubleshoot and test equipment as needed.
• Maintains records of all maintenance performed.
• Assists parts department in shipping and receiving of motor freight.
• Takes service calls and provides assistance when the Service Manager is unavailable.
• Cleans and maintains garage area as needed.
• Other related duties as required.

QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities:

• This job requires stooping, bending, climbing, and the capability of lifting 50 pounds.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical material.

Education and Experience:

• Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
• Three years on the job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics. Schooling in these fields could substitute for some of the job experience.
• While it is not a requirement that the FSM pass the AWSD14 Welding Test, the incumbent is required to pass the tacker test. The FSM is encouraged to practice and improve welding skills to pass the AWSD14 Welding Test to be considered for future promotions.
