Job summary

Sudden Service, Inc. (SSI) provides comprehensive lift truck service and genuine Taylor OEM parts through a nationwide network and factory-trained technicians.

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to inspect equipment, diagnose issues, and perform repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, and related systems. The role requires reading blueprints, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Three years on-the-job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics.
• Schooling in diesel hydraulics could substitute part of experience.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and technical material.

Responsibilities

• Inspect lift trucks and equipment to determine repairs.
• Perform repairs on gasoline, diesel, and propane engines with minimal instruction.
• Inspect, adjust, and repair components as needed.
• Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems using diagnostic tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance to improve fleet condition.
• Operate equipment to troubleshoot and test equipment.
• Maintain records of all maintenance performed.
• Assist parts department in shipping and receiving.
• Take service calls and provide assistance when the Service Manager is unavailable.
• Clean and maintain garage area.
• Other related duties as required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Inspects lift trucks and equipment to determine the extent of repairs.
• Performs needed repairs on gasoline, diesel, and propane engines with minimal instruction.
• Inspects, adjusts, and repairs components as needed.
• Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems using diagnostic tools.
• Performs preventative maintenance as needed to improve the condition and performance of the fleet.
• Operates equipment to troubleshoot and test equipment as needed.
• Maintains records of all maintenance performed.
• Assists parts department in shipping and receiving of motor freight.
• Takes service calls and provides assistance when the Service Manager is unavailable.
• Cleans and maintains garage area as needed.
• Other related duties as required.

Qualifications Required Skills/Abilities:

• This job requires stooping, bending, climbing, and the capability of lifting 50 pounds.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical material.

Education and Experience:

• Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
• Three years on the job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics. Schooling in these fields could substitute for some of the job experience.
• While it is not a requirement that the FSM pass the AWSD14 Welding Test, the incumbent is required to pass the tacker test. The FSM is encouraged to practice and improve welding skills to pass the AWSD14 Welding Test to be considered for future promotions.
