gpac is seeking a Shop Manager for a steel fabrication and welding shop. This hands-on leadership role requires reading plans, fabricating steel, managing a shop crew, and ensuring safety and quality in daily operations.

You will oversee welding, fabrication, and supervision of shop employees, while maintaining inventory and ensuring adherence to timelines and standards. Experience in MIG/STICK welding and shop leadership is essential.

• Strong MIG and Stick welding skills; capable of torch and saw cutting.

Shop Manager - Steel Fabrication

About The Opportunity

We are seeking a Shop Manager to lead day-to-day operations in a steel fabrication and welding shop. This is a hands‑on leadership position for an experienced welder / fabricator who can read plans, fabricate steel, manage a shop crew, and ensure work is completed safely and to quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Weld and fabricate structural steel from shop plans and drawings.
• Manage, lead, and delegate work to shop employees.
• Assess the skill levels of new employees and communicate findings to management.
• Inspect welds and fabricated work to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Ensure employees are working safely and using the proper PPE.
• Maintain inventory and stock of welding supplies and fabrication materials.
• Monitor material needs and communicate when supplies need to be reordered.
• Open and close the welding shop on a daily basis.
• Help maintain an organized, productive, and safe shop environment.
• Lead by example and assist with welding and fabrication work as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

• Ability to read and understand shop plans and the steel fabrication process.
• Previous experience leading and managing a team.
• Strong MIG and Stick welding skills.
• Experience with torch cutting and saw cutting.
• Experience laying out and fabricating steel members.
• Strong understanding of welding and fabrication processes.
• Ability to inspect completed work and identify quality issues.
• Good communication and organizational skills.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience leading a welding or fabrication shop crew.
• Forklift certification.
• AWS certification.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Compensation & Benefits

• $60,000-$75,000/year, depending on experience
• SEP IRA - Company contributes 4% of annual salary
