Ready to rev up your career? Are you prepared to take the next step? Do you have a knack for fixing things and leading teams? If so, consider the role of U-Haul Company’s Shop Manager. In this position, you will work under the direction of the Marketing Company President to profitably manage shop personnel.

Shop Manager Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Operate a rental equipment repair shop with 15+ repair staff performing maintenance and repairs on U-Haul trucks and trailers.
  2. Maintain budget compliance within each Key Result Area (KRA).
  3. Lead shop personnel in performing major preventive maintenance on the fleet and standard preventive maintenance on rotation and one-way trucks.
  4. Oversee repairs of trailers, support rental items, and general rental equipment.
  5. Manage parts inventory, establishing minimums and maximums for accurate control.
  6. Ensure ongoing training through programs like the Joint Efforts in Training (JET) and other U-Haul training initiatives.
  7. Perform repairs on trucks and trailers, including engine, transmission, drivetrain, and body work, and coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs.
  8. Ensure rental equipment passes Safety Certification Inspections before rental.
  9. Handle personnel administration, including hiring, evaluating, training, disciplining, and terminating staff as needed.
Qualifications
  1. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  2. Understanding of productionizing and ability to implement it.
  3. Develop specialization of labor and utilize qualification matrices with staff.
  4. Knowledge of warranty procedures, guidelines, and goal orientation.
  5. Familiarity with U-Haul Product Standards and repair campaigns.
  6. Ensure repairs are within published limits or obtain prior authorization for exceeding repairs.
  7. Complete repairs efficiently, within budgets, and ensure quality for customer satisfaction.
  8. Perform safety certifications to ensure work quality.
  9. Understanding of profit and loss concepts, profit sharing, and financial guidelines.
  10. Consult with management and technical centers for guidance and capability upgrades.
  11. Comply with all company policies and participate in training programs to upgrade skills.
