The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 (Howard County) is currently recruiting for a Shop Maintenance Contract Inspector (Transportation Engineering Technician III)position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. Nature of Work:As a Shop Maintenance Contract Inspector, this individual will perform duties in the maintenance and construction work areas such as highways, ramps, buildings, parking areas, bridges, and snow removal. This position will oversee all aspects of work done by the contractors including, but not limited to guardrail installation, repair, and reimbursables; paving; highway lighting; line striping; herbicide spraying; tractor mowing; tree and brush cutting; inlet repairs; mechanical roadway sweeping; snow removal services; maintenance of traffic; and crack sealing. The Shop Maintenance Contract Inspector receives assignments from the Transportation Engineering Technician IV, Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer, and the Resident Maintenance Engineer. The main purpose of this position is to oversee work performed by skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled work teams. Also, ensuring that all materials and equipment are used correctly and that the project is done on time according to the contract's special provision and Maryland Specification and Standards Manual. Job duties also include keeping work records on Inspector Daily Reports, Daily Construction Logs, and/or eTAC cards, to be entered into the Ledger Book. This position will provide the basic level of professional experience to ensure that the daily maintenance operations in the Dayton maintenance facility are carried out correctly, safely, and in compliance with standards and specifications. This position requires a Driver’s License. This position will be on call 24/7 for highway emergencies and natural disasters and is considered essential personnel. This position is also required to perform Facility Maintenance Technician duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three (3)years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Selective Qualification:One and a half (1 ½) years of the required experience must have involved experience inmaintenance and/or construction inspection.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).
Preferred Qualification:
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.
