Job summary

Blanchard Machinery is seeking a Shop Lead Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment, guiding a team to meet service goals. You will manage duties from parts to customer communication while adhering to safety standards.

Qualified candidates bring 10+ years of diesel equipment experience, strong leadership, and hands-on skills with electrical/hydraulic schematics and test equipment. Local relocation in Summerville, SC preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; diesel tech knowledge preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to read electrical/hydraulic schematics and manuals.
• Experience leading technicians and mentoring team members.

Job description

Shop Lead Technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works as a leader of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. Primarily responsible for establishing production goals, supervising, training and evaluating service employees to ensure that work is performed in support of company’s department goals.

• Monitors physical requirements for work completion (facilities, tools, environmental) and communicates same on an ongoing basis to his/her supervisor.

• Achieves labor sales and utilization expectations as set by supervisor/manager to ensure team revenue targets are met.
• Performs job duties of a Service Supervisor during periods of his/her absence.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures.
• Provides quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks.
• Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling.
• Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components.
• Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management.
• Plans and controls cost of repair jobs.
• Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return.
• Provides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented supervision, mentoring, and training to others.
• Maintains all equipment and work areas - keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• High school diploma or equivalent reqiured.
• 10+ years-experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing diesel equipment preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Proficient with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
• Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
• Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
• Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
• Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures is required.
• Must be able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals.
• Organizational and time management skills required. Must have the ability to set and keep priorities and professionally handle the stress associated with dealing with a fast paced industry and deadlines.

Working Conditions

• The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily inside (non-climate controlled) throughout the day.
• Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment.
• Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
• Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials.
• Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines in order to maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
• Must be able to lift varied weight.
