Job description

The Equipment Yard Foreman supervises daily field operations and yard personnel. You are responsible for the physical condition of the fleet and the productivity of the yard crew. You bridge the gap between the shop mechanics and the transport drivers to ensure the right gear is ready to roll at a moment’s notice.

Key Responsibilities

• Crew Leadership: Supervise and schedule yard laborers and equipment operators. Assign daily tasks and ensure high productivity.
• Quality Control: Conduct final "ready-to-work" inspections. Ensure equipment is fueled, greased, cleaned, and that all attachments are securely loaded.
• Mechanical Troubleshooting: Perform "triage" on returned equipment. Determine if a machine needs a simple filter change (Yard) or a major repair (Shop).
• Safety Enforcement: Lead daily "tailgate" safety meetings. Act as the primary enforcer of PPE and safe operating procedures within the yard gates.
• Asset Mobilization: Directly oversee the loading/unloading of heavy haulers. Ensure weight distribution and tie‑down procedures meet DOT standards.
• Facility Upkeep: Manage the physical maintenance of the yard, including gravel/paving repair, fence security, and lighting.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of hands‑on experience with heavy machinery. At least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Expert Operator: Must be an expert‑level operator of various machines (loaders, telehandlers, excavators) to move equipment in tight spaces.
• Mechanical Aptitude: Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
• Certifications: Valid CDL Class A (preferred) and advanced safety certifications (OSHA 30).
• Communication: Ability to give clear, firm commands in a loud, fast‑paced environment.
