Job summary

Reliance Fire Protection, part of the Davis-Ulmer Family of Companies, is seeking a Shop Foreman in Baltimore, MD. You will oversee daily shop operations, coordinate sprinkler pipe fabrication, manage material staging, and supervise shop staff to keep projects on schedule.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in warehouse or shop roles, knowledge of NFPA/OSHA standards, and experience with inventory management and shop equipment. Local candidates preferred; strong leadership is essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in warehouse or shop roles; fire protection/construction preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Experience supervising shop staff and coordinating material flow.
  • Proven ability to manage inventory and equipment maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license and forklift experience.

  • Oversee daily shop operations supporting fire protection projects.
  • Coordinate fabrication of sprinkler pipe (cutting, threading, grooving, assembly).
  • Schedule material staging for upcoming jobs and ensure proper loading.
  • Maintain a clean, organized shop and inventory records.
  • Supervise shop personnel, drivers, and warehouse staff; train others.
  • Monitor productivity and enforce safety and company policies.
  • Assist with fleet coordination and tool maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA and OSHA standards.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to add a Shop Foreman to our Baltimore, MD team. The Shop Foreman oversees daily shop operations, directing the fabrication, staging, and inventory of materials that support our fire sprinkler and fire protection projects, while supervising shop personnel including our Shop Assistant, drivers, and warehouse staff. This role keeps the shop running safely, efficiently, and on schedule to meet the needs of our field crews. Success in this role requires strong organizational and leadership skills, hands‑on knowledge of pipe fabrication and shop equipment, and a commitment to quality, accountability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily shop operations supporting fire sprinkler and fire protection projects.
  • Coordinate fabrication of sprinkler pipe, including cutting, threading, grooving, and assembly.
  • Schedule and prioritize material staging for upcoming jobs.
  • Ensure proper loading and unloading of materials for field crews.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment.
  • Manage inventory of pipe, fittings, valves, sprinkler heads, hangers, and related materials.
  • Conduct cycle counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Coordinate purchasing and restocking of materials and consumables.
  • Work closely with project managers to forecast material needs.
  • Minimize waste, damage, and material shortages.
  • Supervise shop personnel, drivers, and warehouse staff.
  • Train employees on proper material handling and equipment operation.
  • Monitor productivity and enforce company policies.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.
  • Oversee maintenance schedules for shop equipment, including threading machines, forklifts, and lifts.
  • Coordinate tool tracking and maintenance for field crews.
  • Assist with fleet coordination as needed.
  • Enforce OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Ensure proper storage of materials in compliance with fire codes.
  • Maintain SDS documentation and ensure proper PPE usage.
  • Support quality control standards aligned with NFPA guidelines.
  • Work closely with project managers, estimators, and field supervisors.
  • Assist with job preparation, material takeoffs, and staging.
  • Support emergency service material needs when required.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of warehouse or shop experience; fire protection or construction industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, pipe fabrication, and related materials strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience operating forklifts and shop fabrication equipment.
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a warehouse environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Industry experience with NFPA 13 systems.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in a shop and warehouse environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 6 feet.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Regular operation of shop equipment and forklifts.

The salary for this role is $25 to $28 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
