Job summary

DU Family of Companies is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Fitter in Auburn, ME to install overhead piping, maintain and repair sprinkler systems, and lead apprentices. You will read blueprints, apply NFPA standards, and install complex piping and risers across job sites.

The role requires extensive sprinkler installation experience (5+ years), knowledge of NFPA 13/13R/13D/14/20, and the ability to work at heights up to 100 feet. Competitive pay and benefits offered.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to add a Fire Sprinkler Fitter to our Auburn, ME team. This position is responsible for installing integrated overhead piping systems and maintaining and repairing automatic sprinkler systems, standpipes, clean agent systems, foam systems, and other fire protection equipment. Success in this role requires extensive sprinkler installation experience, knowledge of applicable NFPA codes and standards, blueprint-reading skills, physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and train apprentices.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, fire protection drawings, and project specifications.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of applicable NFPA codes, including NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, and 20.
• Communicate with project managers regarding schedules and project requirements.
• Install overhead sprinkler piping, standpipe systems, sprinkler system risers, and specialty fire protection systems.
• Secure hangers and seismic bracing to building structures.
• Install prefabricated main and line piping according to fire protection drawings and applicable codes and standards.
• Measure, cut, thread, or groove piping when materials are not prefabricated or modifications are required.
• Join piping using the appropriate fittings.
• Install sprinkler heads according to drawings and within applicable code allowances.
• Build system risers, including backflow prevention devices, dry pipe or alarm valve setups, control valves, bells, drains, fire pumps, and stored water supplies, when applicable.
• Manage and train fire sprinkler apprentices assigned to work with the fitter.
• Follow established safety practices when working with trade tools, ladders, lifts, and fall-protection equipment.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum of five years of experience installing fire sprinkler systems.
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards relevant to the installation, inspection, and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable NFPA codes, particularly NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, and 20.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fire protection drawings, and project specifications.
• Ability to work at various heights using ladders and lifts, potentially at heights of up to 100 feet.
• Ability to direct and train fire sprinkler apprentices.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Work at ceiling level using ladders and lift platforms at heights generally ranging from 8 to 20 feet and, in some cases, up to 100 feet.
• Work at varying heights indoors between building roofs and ceilings or outdoors while installing underground piping in various weather conditions.
• Perform physically demanding work involving considerable climbing, bending, and carrying heavy pieces of pipe.
• Work in environments ranging from hot boiler rooms to unheated, open buildings.
• Use the tools of the trade with the manual dexterity necessary to perform work safely and reduce the risk of injuries and falls.

The wage for this role is $25 to $30 per hour , based on experience and qualifications.
