Job summary

J.B. Hunt, Inc. is seeking a Shop Floor Supervisor in an entry-level management role in Memphis. You will assist with day-to-day planning, staffing, and audits across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends, while promoting safety and efficiency.

You will lead a team, coordinate repairs, monitor costs, and ensure DOT/state compliance. The position offers full-time hours with potential bonuses and growth within a Fortune 500 transportation leader.

Responsibilities

  • Solicit, assign, and monitor onsite vendors to control repairs and costs.
  • Monitor shop expenses to stay within the budget and improve cost efficiency.
  • Promote safety culture and conduct safety meetings and inspections.
  • Inspect repairs to ensure DOT and company standards.
  • Manage staffing, performance reviews, and attendance.
  • Monitor floor work to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Perform daily operations tasks such as estimates and yard checks.
  • Train staff on service bulletins, OSHA compliance, and company policies.
  • Schedule inbound equipment and prioritize repairs.
  • Ensure warranty procedures are followed.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned.
  • Begin shifts on schedule and manage cost per hour.

Job Summary

Under general direction, this position is an entry-level people management position that will assist and support the day-to‑time planning and organizing of a team at a facility. The incumbent will act upon leadership's direction as it pertains to managing facility audits, inventory, budgets, and meeting goals. The position will perform multiple personnel management tasks, including but not limited to, staffing, performance management, annual reviews, and time and attendance. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full-time attendance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sollicit, assign, and monitor onsite vendors to ensure proper repairs are completed and costs are controlled
  • Monitor expenses related to shop management in order to maintain the budget; identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency
  • Maintain the company's safety culture by promoting a safe work environment in compliance with federal and state regulations, conduct safety meetings, mock OSHA inspections, model safe work habits, etc.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure equipment is up to DOT and company standard
  • Perform multiple personnel management tasks, including but not limited to, staffing, performance management, annual reviews, and time and attendance
  • Monitor work in progress on the floor to ensure it is performed safely, correctly, and meets standard repair times
  • Perform daily operational tasks as needed including estimates, down unit reporting, yard checks, etc.
  • Ensure team reaches and maintains goals set by leadership; train staff on service bulletins, OSHA compliance, and company policies and procedures
  • Schedule inbound equipment and maintain estimated running time so that repairs are assigned in order of priority; ensure equipment status is updated continually to maximize utilization
  • Monitor that all required repair campaigns are completed and warranty procedures are followed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensure work shift begins on schedule and assign work orders to technicians to maintain an orderly and efficient workflow that meets internal customer deadlines; manage cost per hour
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 1-2 years of related experience with 1-2 years of which being direct or indirect management experience
  • Ability to act professionally
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
  • Ability to capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, and easily retrievable manner
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to form and manage effective teams
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
  • Ability to work both individually and as a team
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to work with under minimal direction

Compensation

$1,500.00 sign-on bonus for a limited time! This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship. Compensation: Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
