Full Time (Executive – Mechanic)/At-Will

Compensation

$60,000 to $90,000 based on applicable skillset and experience.

Purpose

• The Shop & Field Mechanic will diagnosis, troubleshoot, fix, repair, and maintain heavy equipment in both shop and field project environments by addressing repairs, performance issues, and completing preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment including drilling rigs, excavators, mobile cranes, rock trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, skid steers, man lifts, passenger vehicles, pumps, light plants, and other company owned equipment.
• The Shop & Field Mechanic will utilize various welding techniques to weld / fabricate metal components, materials as specified by blueprints, work orders, and/or oral instructions in an effort to recondition parts and materials required for operational objectives.

Responsibilities

• Repair and troubleshoot equipment in the field in a safe and timely manner.
• Inspect equipment and schedule repairs before failure or breakdown.
• Schedule work to be performed with job supervisors to keep the equipment in shape without causing down time on the job.
• Recognize equipment failure and cause of failure to eliminate future problems.
• Communicate with supervisors on problems with equipment or potential problems coming up.
• Repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines used to power machines, and construction machinery, using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools.
• Troubleshoot and repair construction machinery, troubleshoot equipment performance problems, provide recommendations for problem resolution.
• Disassemble and reassemble engine systems in order to locate defects.
• Diagnose trouble and examines parts for defects and excessive wear.
• Inspect, diagnose and repair many different types of construction components, such as, conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
• Exercise proper lockout/tag out procedures when necessary.
• Exercise safe working practices including proper personal utilization of situationally required PPE.
• Perform preventive maintenance on construction machinery and equipment; and keeps proper reports and records of all tasks performed.
• Conduct diagnostic tests on engine systems and equipment to determine and correct system faults.
• Complete daily maintenance forms, repair logs, JHA’s (Job Hazard Analysis) and other required documents.
• Maintain communication with Supervisor and collaborates effectively with other mechanics.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Accountable for all company assigned tools and equipment.
• All other duties as assigned.

Experience

• 2 years of hands‑on diagnostic and repair experience of heavy construction equipment required.
  • Candidates with equivalent combination of experience, applicable education / training, will be considered.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to utilize personally held aptitude and knowledge to efficiently and effectively diagnosis and repair equipment.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret equipment operator’s manuals, equipment load charts, diagnostic equipment reports, maintenance instructions, training manuals, Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS), warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals.
• Ability to meet safety standards in appropriate rigging procedures.
• Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and co‑workers.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, machines, and associated diagnostic and repair equipment/tools.
• Ability to learn and gain knowledge.
• Ability to follow work orders or receive instructions.
• Ability to work independently and set priorities based on incoming maintenance requests.
• Ability to work for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to work as part of a crew and to follow work orders or receive instructions.
• Ability to focus on daily and weekly goals for the project.
• Ability to work in compliance with applicable OSHA and Company safety requirements.
• Possess strong mechanical aptitude and deep technical knowledge regarding the diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Lifting 50 lb. objects as required.
• Carrying 50 lb. objects as required.
• Heavy lifting with repeated stooping, carrying and bending continually over time (i.e., picks up materials and move to a different location).
• Work long shifts with non-standard break times.
• Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the element.
• Learn job‑related material primarily through oral instruction and observation.
• Must have vision equal to or better than is required for driving.
• If corrective lenses are required to achieve this level of vision, the employee must be able to wear PPE without interfering with the corrective lenses or the required PPE.
• The employee may have to purchase eyeglasses (safety glass, etc.) that are compliant with Company’s Safety Program and OSHA/MSHA requirements.
• Must have good hand‑eye coordination.
• Must have quick reaction times.
• Must be able to hear adequately enough to be alerted by horns, sirens, shouting, or any other noise that is meant to convey a safety warning.
• If corrective device is required to achieve this level of hearing, the employee must be able to wear PPE without interfering with the corrective device or the required PPE.
• Lift arms above shoulder level (i.e., throws bags into a truck).
• Climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Must be able to work at heights of up to 100’ or more.
• Must be able to work in confined or enclosed spaces.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety‑toed boots.
• Must be able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more).
• Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground.
• Must be able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment).
• Must be able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment).
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be committed to contributing to a culture of safety, looking out for yourself and others.
• Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments and holidays as required.

Licenses or Certifications

• Valid US state issued driver’s license required
• CDL driver’s license preferred
• OSHA 10 certification preferred

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
