JOB SUMMARY

Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Diesel Technician I to join our team and support the company's growth. If you're looking for a new place to call home, we would love to talk with you. The Shop Diesel Technician I will be responsible for performing DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned. They can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assist higher-level technicians, continually learning new skills. Work is frequently audited for quality, and high performance metrics are expected.

DUTIES
  1. Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  2. Determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
  3. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, assisting in cleanup at day’s end.
  4. Apply knowledge from formal training or on-the-job experience to perform tasks and evaluate technical information.
  5. Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  6. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
  7. Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and adhere to ethical standards.
  8. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various vehicles.
  9. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
  10. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  11. Document work according to standards, upload pictures, and record findings on Repair Orders using company devices or applications.
  12. Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
  13. Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
  14. Communicate with management and support teams regarding repair estimates, purchase orders, and findings.
  15. Comply with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  16. Participate in required safety training.
  17. Maintain shop service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform daily inspections.
  18. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck systems including electrical, brake, cooling, engine electronics, steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  19. Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
  1. High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' related experience. Must possess and supply necessary hand tools.
  2. Complete all required company training.
  3. Must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and physical. A valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining can be submitted in lieu of a physical.
  4. Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
  5. Valid driver’s license and a clean 3-year MVR review are required; must be able to maintain a Driver Qualification File.

  1. Understand implications of new information for problem-solving and decision-making.
  2. Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
  3. Physically exert oneself over long periods, including repetitive tasks.
  4. Communicate facts, ideas, and messages clearly and effectively.
  5. Determine necessary tools and equipment accurately.
  6. Judge distances accurately.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS OR OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification

Hourly pay rate: $19.57 - $29.38, with potential additional compensation through commissions or incentives. Employees receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off monthly, plus holidays and other leave options.
