JOB SUMMARY
Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Diesel Technician I to join our team and support the company's growth. If you're looking for a new place to call home, we would love to talk with you. The Shop Diesel Technician I will be responsible for performing DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned. They can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assist higher-level technicians, continually learning new skills. Work is frequently audited for quality, and high performance metrics are expected.
DUTIES
- Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, assisting in cleanup at day’s end.
- Apply knowledge from formal training or on-the-job experience to perform tasks and evaluate technical information.
- Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
- Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and adhere to ethical standards.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various vehicles.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to standards, upload pictures, and record findings on Repair Orders using company devices or applications.
- Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Communicate with management and support teams regarding repair estimates, purchase orders, and findings.
- Comply with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Participate in required safety training.
- Maintain shop service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform daily inspections.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck systems including electrical, brake, cooling, engine electronics, steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' related experience. Must possess and supply necessary hand tools.
- Complete all required company training.
- Must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and physical. A valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining can be submitted in lieu of a physical.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean 3-year MVR review are required; must be able to maintain a Driver Qualification File.

- Judge distances accurately.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS OR OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
- ASE T4 (Brakes) certification

Hourly pay rate: $19.57 - $29.38, with potential additional compensation through commissions or incentives. Employees receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off monthly, plus holidays and other leave options.
