Job Summary

Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Diesel Technician I to support the company's growth. The Shop Diesel Technician I will perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other duties as assigned. They will assist higher-level technicians and learn advanced mechanical skills. Work is frequently audited for quality, and high performance metrics are expected.

Responsibilities
  1. Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
  2. Determine parts needed and interact with the Parts Department.
  3. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  4. Apply knowledge from training and experience to perform jobs.
  5. Work with Service Writers to assess customer needs and provide assistance.
  6. Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  7. Demonstrate integrity, honesty, and confidentiality.
  8. Perform scheduled maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on vehicles.
  9. Perform routine maintenance like oil changes and battery checks.
  10. Use hand tools, diagnostic instruments, and equipment.
  11. Document work performed and upload pictures and reports.
  12. Complete DOT and other documentation promptly.
  13. Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
  14. Communicate with management about repairs and approvals.
  15. Comply with safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  16. Participate in safety training.
  17. Maintain service trucks and conduct safety checks.
  18. Perform minor repairs on various truck systems.
  19. Follow company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience.
  • Own a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • Complete all required company training.
  • Pass DOT physical and background screening; valid DOT medical card preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
Skills & Abilities
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, and stand for long periods.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to select appropriate tools and judge distances.
Certifications
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Preferred: ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.
