Job summary

J. F. Ahern Co. is seeking a Summer Shop Helper for the Madison Regional office to support shop operations and field projects. You will work under the Shop Manager, maintain tools and inventory, fabricate pipe for field use, and coordinate deliveries and communications across teams.

The role requires prior shop experience, a valid driver's license with a clean record, ability to pass a DOT medical exam, and the physical capacity to lift up to 50 pounds. Forklift operation is a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Make deliveries to Madison regional job sites.
• Coordinate workflow and task completion during the Shop Manager’s absence.

How you will contribute

• You will work independently on delegated tasks under the direction of the Shop Manager.
• You will perform basic preventative maintenance on tools, equipment and machinery; receiving and shipping of materials; maintain orderly storage of materials and inventory levels.
• You will perform fabrication on pipe for the field.
• You will communicate regularly with field and office employees on projects.
• You will make deliveries to jobsites throughout the Madison regional area.
• You will be responsible for coordination of work flow, delegation and task completions during Shop Manager's absence.

What you need to qualify

• Qualified candidates should have prior experience working in a shop environment, be comfortable driving a forklift and be mechanically inclined.
• You must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record and be able to successfully pass a Department of Transportation Driver Medical exam.
• Candidate will be regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate objects; reach with hands and arms and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Computer knowledge and strong multi-tasking skills.
