Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking qualified welders with 1+ years of hands-on welding experience. You will be trained at the shipyard Welding School and perform various welds on steel foundations and ship structures for aircraft carriers and submarines.

Expect to work with SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW processes, in multiple shifts, and comply with visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and radiographic testing requirements. Benefits include health, 401K, PTO, holidays and more.

Qualifications

• Must have at least one year of welding experience.
• Able to take measurements or learn.
• Capable of working shifts as production needs.
• Able to work at extreme heights or in confined spaces.
• Able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Willing to undergo a background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural and/or pipe welds using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW.
• Complete tack, fillet and full-penetration welds in ship construction.
• Meet nondestructive testing requirements and receive training as needed.
