Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking a Welder with 1+ years of hands-on welding experience. As a Welder, you will be trained through the shipyard's Welding School and perform structural and pipe welds using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW on steel foundations and joints in production for aircraft carriers and submarines.

You will work in various positions, meet nondestructive testing requirements, and may receive additional training including visual inspection

Qualifications

• Candidates must have at least one year of welding experience.
• Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn.
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.
• Must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to pass Physical Agility Test.
• Must be able to perform overhead work.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed.
• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural and pipe welds on steel foundations and joints in production.
• Use SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes.
• Meet nondestructive testing requirements including visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, and radiographic inspections.
