Job summary

Omega Shipyard in Mississippi seeks an experienced Shipyard Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator to oversee safety and environmental compliance programs across shipbuilding and repair operations. This role collaborates with management, supervisors, and crews around cranes, welding, painting, and confined spaces to promote a safe workplace.

You will lead inspections, train staff, manage regulatory records, and coordinate emergency planning in a dynamic maritime setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's equivalents not listed; requires an Associate degree in safety/environmental fields (preferred).
• 2–5 years of EHS experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or heavy industry.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine safety inspections of shipyard facilities, vessels, dry docks, and work sites.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA Maritime Standards, OSHA General Industry Standards, EPA regulations, and maritime safety rules.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety orientation and ongoing employee training.
• Monitor confined space, hot work, fall protection, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, and PPE programs.
• Maintain safety documentation, permits, inspections, and regulatory records.
• Coordinate emergency response planning, evacuation drills, and spill response activities.
• Monitor hazardous waste handling, storage, disposal, and recycling programs.
• Assist with environmental permitting and reporting requirements.
• Support contractor safety management and safety compliance.
• Promote participation in safety committees and continuous improvement.
