Job summary

Cooke Aquaculture Inc. is seeking a Shipyard Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator to oversee workplace safety and environmental compliance at our Moss Point shipyard.

You will identify hazards, reduce risks, and promote a culture of safety across shipbuilding, ship repair, painting, welding, and hazardous materials handling. Responsibilities include inspections, OSHA/Coast Guard/EPA compliance, incident investigations, safety training, and maintaining regulatory records.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred).
  • Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • 2-5 years of EHS experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or construction environments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Maritime Standards (29 CFR 1915), OSHA General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910), EPA regulations, and hazardous materials management.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety inspections of shipyard facilities, vessels, dry docks, and work sites.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Coast Guard, and maritime safety regulations.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver safety orientation and ongoing employee training.
  • Monitor confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, and PPE programs.
  • Maintain safety documentation, permits, inspections, and regulatory records.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning, evacuation drills, and spill response activities.
  • Monitor hazardous waste handling, storage, disposal, and recycling programs.
  • Assist with environmental permitting and reporting requirements.
  • Support contractor safety management and compliance.
  • Promote employee participation in safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend corrective actions to eliminate unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Job Summary:
The Shipyard Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator oversees workplace safety and environmental compliance programs within the shipyard. This role works closely with management, supervisors, and employees to identify hazards, reduce workplace risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safety. The coordinator also assists with environmental protection initiatives related to shipbuilding, ship repair, painting, welding, hazardous materials, and waste management.
