Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking a Shipping/Receiving associate to support accurate order fulfillment. You will review orders, locate and stage products, and verify quantities against system records while maintaining safety and efficiency in the warehouse.

Responsibilities include packing, labeling, loading/unloading, and daily communication with supervisors to resolve discrepancies. This is a full-time, on-site position in Kansas with standard warehouse shifts.

Qualifications

Review pick tickets, production orders, shipping schedules, labels, and special instructions before beginning assigned work.

• Locate, identify, pull, and stage the correct finished products and materials for customer orders, transfers, or internal requests.
• Count, measure, weigh, scan, and otherwise verify products and quantities against pick tickets, packing slips, labels, and system records.
• Package, bundle, wrap, band, cap, protect, and label products according to established procedures and customer requirements.
• Safely load and unload trucks, trailers, racks, carts, pallets, and other approved conveyances using authorized equipment and methods.
• Inspect inbound and outbound materials for visible damage, correct identification, quantity, and condition; promptly report discrepancies or concerns.
• Move and store materials in designated locations while preserving product identification, traceability, access, and inventory accuracy.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other approved material-handling equipment only when trained and authorized.
• Perform required pre-use equipment inspections and remove from service or report equipment that is damaged, unsafe, or not operating properly.
• Take required shipment and load photographs and retain or submit them according to established procedures.
• Assist with cycle counts, inventory checks, location verification, product relocation, and investigation of inventory discrepancies.
• Monitor truck and pedestrian traffic in assigned work areas and follow established dock, yard, trailer, and loading procedures.
• Maintain clear aisles, docks, exits, staging areas, charging areas, and equipment parking locations.
• Support receiving, production, quality, customer service, and other warehouse activities as assigned and within training and authorization.
• Communicate accurate information during shift changes and promptly advise the Warehouse Manager or other appropriate personnel of shortages, damage, delays, or special circumstances.
• Follow all company safety rules, quality procedures, work instructions, PPE requirements, and supervisor directions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Verify that the item, quantity, length, color, profile, package count, label, destination, and other required order information are correct before shipment.

• Confirm that products are properly released or approved for shipment and do not knowingly load held, rejected, unidentified, damaged, or nonconforming material.
• Identify, segregate, and report damaged, questionable, mislabeled, or nonconforming product according to established procedures.
• Complete or support required shipping records accurately, including pick tickets, packing slips, bills of lading, load photographs, inventory transactions, inspection records, and other required documentation.
• Protect finished products from bending, crushing, contamination, weather exposure, shifting, abrasion, or other preventable damage during handling, staging, storage, and loading.
• Follow established load plans and directions for trailer placement, weight distribution, stacking, blocking, bracing, and freight securement; seek direction whenever requirements are unclear or a load cannot be completed safely.
• Report order shortages, overages, location errors, damaged packaging, documentation errors, trailer concerns, and other conditions that may affect shipment accuracy or timing.
• Record inventory movements and location changes promptly and accurately using approved warehouse, ERP, scanning, or paper-based systems.
• Work with Quality, Production, Customer Service, Sales, and supervision as directed to resolve routine order or product questions before shipment.
• Complete assigned work efficiently while maintaining accuracy, product protection, and safe handling practices.

Safety Responsibilities

• Remain alert and attentive while operating material-handling equipment or working around forklifts, trailers, loading docks, pedestrians, moving products, and other warehouse traffic.
• Use seat belts, warning devices, horns, lights, mirrors, and other required forklift safety features; maintain clear visibility and travel at a safe speed for conditions.
• Dismount and park powered industrial equipment in a safe condition before engaging in conversations or activities that divert attention from operation.
• Do not enter, load, or unload a trailer until required dock plates, restraints, wheel chocks, trailer stands, or other safeguards have been verified in accordance with company procedure.
• Stay clear of suspended, elevated, shifting, or unsecured loads and never stand or permit others beneath raised forks or loads.
• Use safe methods and required PPE when handling banding, straps, sharp-edged materials, long-length products, pallets, and packaging tools.
• Do not exceed equipment, rack, dock, trailer, pallet, or load capacity limits, and do not move a load that blocks safe visibility unless an approved safe method is used.
• Follow pedestrian walkways, right-of-way rules, intersection precautions, and designated travel routes.
• Follow battery charging, fueling, parking, key-control, and equipment shutdown procedures for material-handling equipment.
• Never bypass, defeat, remove, or work around a guard, restraint, interlock, dock safety device, or other safety control except as specifically authorized under an approved procedure.
• Immediately report injuries, near misses, spills, damaged racks, unsafe trailers, unstable loads, equipment damage, product damage, and other safety concerns to supervision.
• Stop work and notify supervision when a condition cannot be safely corrected within the Shipping Technician's training and authority.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required to perform assigned job duties and use team lifting or approved mechanical assistance for heavier, long, or awkward loads.
• Frequently stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift, including on concrete surfaces and in warehouse, dock, yard, and trailer areas.
• Frequently use hands and arms to handle, grasp, reach, position, package, label, scan, and inspect products and materials.
• Frequently bend, stoop, crouch, reach, push, pull, twist, climb, and perform repetitive movements associated with shipping and material handling.
• Must be able to safely push, pull, move, or reposition pallets, carts, racks, containers, finished products, packaging materials, and shipping supplies.
• Must be able to safely enter and exit forklifts and other approved equipment repeatedly and maintain stable body positioning while operating controls and observing the travel path.
• Must be able to safely enter and exit trailers, use approved ladders or access equipment when required, and maintain balance without overreaching.
• Must have sufficient visual ability to read shipping documents, labels, system information, equipment indicators, and load markings; identify product and damage; and maintain awareness of people, equipment, and obstacles.
• Must be able to work safely around powered equipment and respond appropriately to visual and audible warnings, alarms, horns, and instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Basic reading, writing, math, measurement, and computer or scanning skills sufficient to complete shipping and inventory work accurately.
• Ability to obtain and maintain company authorization to operate required powered industrial trucks and material-handling equipment.
• Prior warehouse, shipping, receiving, logistics, manufacturing, or material-handling experience preferred.
• Ability to work assigned hours and overtime, weekends, or schedule changes as business needs require.

Summary

The Shipping Technician supports safe, accurate, and timely customer fulfillment by receiving, moving, storing, staging, packaging, documenting, and loading finished extrusion products and other materials. The position operates approved material-handling equipment, verifies order and inventory information, protects products from damage, maintains an orderly warehouse and shipping area, and promptly communicates discrepancies, damage, delays, equipment concerns, and safety hazards to the Warehouse Manager or other appropriate personnel.
