Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or shipping.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct leadership or team leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of shipping operations, forklift safety, dock management, and warehouse processes.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and computerized inventory or warehouse management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety leadership activities, daily shift-start safety meetings and ensure PPE compliance.
  • Direct daily loading, staging, and shipping activities during peak evening dispatch hours.
  • Coach and develop shift personnel; monitor attendance and staffing needs.
  • Ensure on-time shipments, dock efficiency, and shipping accuracy.
  • Coordinate freight movements and manage equipment inspections and asset safety.
  • Conduct effective shift handovers and prepare accurate shift reports.
  • Collaborate with production to resolve issues prior to shipment.

POSITION TITLE: SHIPPING SUPERVISOR - 2nd Shift

SCHEDULE: 2nd Shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM | Monday - Friday + overtime/weekends as required)

REPORTS TO: SHIPPING MANAGER

LOCATION: LATHROP, CA

Salary: ($73K-85K)

SUMMARY:

Direct frontline shipping and dock operations during 2nd Shift within a fast-paced, 24-hour manufacturing environment. Lead forklift operators, loaders, and staging personnel while ensuring safe operations, efficient product flow, accurate shipments, and strong employee engagement.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who values accountability, leads by example, and creates an environment where safety, quality, and performance are non-negotiable.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety Leadership
  • Conduct daily shift-start safety meetings and reinforce safe work practices throughout the shift.
  • Ensure compliance with all PPE requirements, equipment inspections, and company safety procedures.
  • Immediately address unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, and near misses.
  • Promote a culture where employees feel responsible for one another's safety.
Team Leadership & Accountability
  • Lead by example and establish clear expectations for performance, attendance, safety, and conduct.
  • Provide coaching, training, and constructive feedback to shift personnel.
  • Recognize strong performance while consistently addressing performance issues.
  • Foster a positive work environment built on fairness, consistency, and respect.
Shipping & Dock Operations
  • Direct daily loading, staging, and shipping activities during peak evening dispatch hours.
  • Coordinate freight movement to ensure on-time shipments and efficient dock flow.
  • Monitor trailer utilization, load quality, and shipping accuracy.
  • Minimize delays and improve overall dock performance.
Attendance & Scheduling
  • Monitor daily attendance and staffing requirements.
  • Address attendance issues promptly and consistently according to company policy.
  • Support staffing adjustments necessary to meet customer and operational requirements.
Quality & Customer Focus
  • Verify outgoing shipments meet quality and customer requirements.
  • Perform routine audits of staged product and completed loads.
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve issues before product is shipped.
Equipment & Asset Management
  • Review and enforce completion of daily equipment inspections.
  • Ensure forklifts, scanners, dock equipment, and related assets remain safe and operational.
  • Report maintenance needs promptly and remove unsafe equipment from service when necessary.
Shift Communication
  • Conduct effective shift handovers with incoming and outgoing supervisors.
  • Complete accurate shift reports documenting safety, production, quality, staffing, and operational concerns.
  • Communicate issues clearly to management and supporting departments.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or shipping environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct leadership, supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of shipping operations, forklift safety, dock management, and warehouse processes.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and computerized inventory or warehouse management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing or high-volume industrial shipping operations.
  • Experience leading teams of 8 or more employees.
  • Demonstrated success improving safety, productivity, attendance, or employee retention.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as sales, business and performance reports, operating and maintenance instructions, training and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write business reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems and deal with situations where limited information or standardization exists.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, costs, proportions, and volumes.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Computer literate (MS Office including Word and Excel), data entry skills
  • Application knowledge of products and production processes
  • Quality standards – both ISO and QS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a fast-paced manufacturing and shipping environment with active forklift traffic, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods, frequently up to 8-10 hours per shift.
  • Climb on and off equipment and loading platforms.
  • Bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday.
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving equipment in the work area. The employee is sometimes exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, along with hot and cold temperatures depending upon the season. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
