Job summary

Veritiv is seeking a Shipping Supervisor to oversee daily shipping operations at our corrugated converting plants. You will lead a team, optimize workflows, and ensure on-time delivery to customers.

Responsibilities include coordinating with logistics partners, managing outbound loads, enforcing safety standards, and maintaining accurate inventory across sites. Strong leadership and planning are essential for success.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily shipment planning and execution across facilities.
  • Monitor outbound loads and coordinate transfers between sites.
  • Supervise shipping loaders and conduct floor walks for load quality.
  • Collaborate with scheduler to ensure on-time customer shipments.
  • Communicate with 3rd party logistics partners about trailer movements and delays.
  • Notify Customer Service and Sales of delays or disruptions.
  • Manage equipment, labor and resources to stay lean and cost effective.
  • Enforce safety policy and maintain a safe, clean workplace.
  • Monitor trailer and dock safety and compliance with safety standards.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end inventory processes and reporting.
  • Provide back-up support for the Shipping Clerk as needed.
  • Conduct cycle counts and manage finished goods inventory.

Job description

Job Purpose

Our Shipping Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily shipping operations within a corrugated converting box plant. This role includes managing the shipment of finished products, ensuring accuracy in orders, coordinating with transportation providers, and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. The supervisor leads a team of shipping personnel, optimizes workflows, and ensures on-time delivery to customers.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily shipment planning and execution across both corrugated/converting facilities.
  • Monitor and manage the status of outbound loads and coordinate internal Work In Progress (WIP) and Finished Goods (FG) transfers between all corrugated/converting sites.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to shipping loaders across the facility.
  • Conduct routine floor walks to inspect load quality and pallet integrity, ensuring all shipments meet company standards (e.g., stretch wrap, strapping, loading configuration, cleanliness).
  • Collaborate with the scheduler to ensure shipments to our customers on time.
  • Communicate daily with 3rd party logistics partner regarding trailer movements, load status, and delays.
  • Notify Customer Service and Sales promptly of any shipping delays or disruptions.
  • Manage/monitor equipment, labor and resources to ensure we are lean and cost effective.
  • Enforce safety policy/protocol and ensure a safe, clean, organized work environment.
  • Monitor trailer and dock safety, ensuring compliance with company safety standards and procedures.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end inventory processes, ensuring accurate reconciliation and reporting.
  • Provide back-up support for the Shipping Clerk as needed.
  • Conduct cycle counts and manage warehouse accounts finished goods inventory.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Strong leadership and team-management skills.
  • Proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of shipping regulations and safety compliance.

Working Conditions

The work environment for this position requires:

  • Regularly working in a non-climate-controlled warehouse where exposure to cold, heat, damp or humid conditions may occur.
  • Exposure to loud noise.
  • Exposure to dust, mechanical hazards, moving objects, and moving vehicles.
Physical Requirements

The physical requirements listed below are representative of those needed to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Ability to lift, twist and carry up 50 - 75 pounds, manipulate (push and pull) up to 160 pounds of product with material handling equipment and skids weighing up to 2,000 pounds utilizing pallet jack.
  • Walking/Standing - walk throughout the warehouse to complete customer orders. Stand when operating order picker or reach truck equipment and when operating cutter.
  • Sitting - sit only when driving sit-down material handling equipment.
  • Lifting - lift items weighing a few ounces up to 150 pounds with assistance .
  • Stooping - performed when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations. May bend at the waist.
  • Kneeling - kneel when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations.
