Job description

Karman Space & Defense is a leader in the rapid design, development, and production of critical, next-generation system solutions that align with the U.S. Department of War and its allies’ core mission priorities, and meet the accelerating demand for access to space. Building on nearly 50 years of success, we deliver Payload & Protection Systems, Aero/Hydrodynamic Interstage Systems, and Propulsion & Launch Systems to more than 80 prime contractors supporting over 130 space and defense programs.

This role is part of our Hypersonics and Strategic Missile Defense business, which designs, develops, and delivers highly dependable missile systems for hypersonic and strategic missile defense missions. We provide integrated, mission-ready hardware that brings together multiple technologies into unified systems engineered to perform in demanding operational environments. Our tip-to-tail capabilities include payload protection and deployment systems, propulsion systems, aerodynamic interstage systems, separation systems, missile subsystems, shroud systems, launch systems, and payload integration solutions.

As Receiving Supervisor, you will lead daily inbound material operations to ensure materials are received accurately, documented properly, and processed efficiently. You will guide the Receiving team, maintain compliance with quality and traceability requirements, and partner with Procurement, Quality, Production, and Inventory Control to keep materials moving and support on-time manufacturing.

Schedule
  • Occasional Saturday mornings may be required to support business needs.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, schedule, train, and develop the Receiving team while establishing clear performance expectations and accountability.
  • Oversee inbound shipments, verifying part numbers, revisions, quantities, and required documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure receiving activities meet AS9100, customer-specific quality, traceability, and documentation requirements.
  • Review Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), material certifications, test reports, and traceability records, escalating discrepancies and supplier documentation issues.
  • Coordinate material inspections and dispositions with Quality, maintaining organized workflows for inspection holds, Material Review Board (MRB) items, and material staging.
  • Ensure accurate receipt transactions in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Epicor) and maintain complete digital records for audit readiness.
  • Monitor productivity, accuracy, and on-time delivery metrics; maintain visual management tools, approve timecards, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Partner with Procurement and cross-functional teams to resolve receiving issues, communicate risks, and align material availability with production needs.
  • Support internal and external audits, including AS9100, Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), and customer audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process enhancements, Lean initiatives, 5S, efficient material movement, and adherence to safety and facility policies.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • 3–5 years of experience in receiving, warehouse, or material handling within aerospace, defense, or a highly regulated industry.
  • 1–3 years of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100 and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) requirements.
  • Knowledge of defense industry documentation standards and receiving processes.
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems; Epicor experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis and nonconformance handling, including Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
  • Forklift certification or ability to be trained.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, or sit for up to eight hours per shift.
  • Occasionally push, pull, lift, or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with a minimum weight of 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally ascend and descend stairs or ramps.
  • Safely use and operate a forklift.
  • Wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel‑toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other equipment specified by the job safety analysis.

The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
