Job summary

Valero is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Operator at the Fort Dodge, IA plant to unload raw materials, load ethanol and distiller’s grain, and coordinate truck and rail car movements. The role supports production output on a 12-hour rotating day shift and requires working on-site.

The position is an hourly nonexempt role with overtime eligibility. Candidates with rail car movement experience and heavy equipment familiarity are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain processes for corn receiving, storage, unloading, and loading.
• Unload corn from trucks and railcars; load ethanol and distiller's grains.
• Take samples for testing; weigh, document, and issue paperwork to drivers.
• Operate scale house equipment and data entry; monitor equipment and assist maintenance.
• Communicate with local rail service to coordinate rail movements.

As a Shipping & Receiving Operator you will be responsible for unloading raw materials, loading ethanol and distiller’s grain, and the movement of trucks and rail cars on the plant site. This position ensures maximum production quantity and quality while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company and works a 12-hour rotating day shift schedule.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

Duties

At Valero, this role performs duties that support our commitment to advancing the future of energy through innovation, ingenuity, and unmatched execution. You can help achieve this goal if you can:

• Operate and maintain all processes associated with corn receiving, corn storage, product storage, unloading, and loading.
• Unload corn from trucks and railcars.
• Load ethanol into trucks and railcars.
• Load distiller’s grains into trucks, railcars, and containers.
• Take samples of corn, ethanol, and distiller’s grains for testing.
• Operate plant scale house; probes, analyzes, and grades corn, weighs trucks in and out, enters data into scale house software, issues paperwork to drivers.
• Operate meters and bulk weighers to facilitate product loading.
• Operate locomotive or rail mover to move railcars on plant site to facilitate loading and unloading of product.
• Operate large machinery and equipment such as front end loaders and lifts.
• Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs. (LOTO-lock out tag out, Safe Work Permit, FSMA-Food Safety Modernization Act).
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks as required.
• Perform routine housekeeping duties to maintain a clean work environment.
• Monitor area equipment and assists with maintenance as required.
• Communicate regularly with local rail service to facilitate rail movement activities.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Able and willing to work on-site and in-person, required.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience with the movement and loading of rail cars preferred.
• Experience working with heavy equipment in an industrial environment or grain elevator preferred.
• Experience with the operation of front-end loaders, forklift trucks, rail movers, man lifts, and related material handling equipment preferred.
• Experience in the operation of a dry-mill ethanol plant preferred.
• Experience with standard computer software programs, i.e. Microsoft Outlook and SAP, preferred.
