Description
The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving and unloading freight both manually or with equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks as well as packing and preparing items for shipment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Pull resale items from stock and match them to the picking sheets.
- Attach shipping labels on packed cartons.
- Match manufactured products with picking sheets and ship complete or place on proper pallet for full completion.
- Place items into containers using fillers, spacers and protective padding
- Input shipping information from picking sheet in to the computer
- Determine method of shipment by utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, rates and routes
- Ability to use UPS software and create shipping labels
- Examine outgoing shipments and make sure they conform with specifications
- Call customers when their pick-ups are ready
- Will be responsible for Discrepancy forms
- Responsible for a weekly inventory of boxes, labels and tape
- May be required to perform only receiving or shipping activities and be referred to as Receiving Clerk or Shipping Clerk
- May receive defective or damaged goods returned to establishment and be addressed Returned-Goods Receiving Clerk
- May receive unsold products returned by sales routes, sales representatives, driver and be designated Route Returner
- Unload shipments in a timely manner both manually or with equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks
- Verify accurately quantity and quality of items received with purchase order
- Ensure all materials received are correctly recorded in the computer
- Accurately store, deliver and retrieve material to and from shelves or other departments
- Stock shelves and counts inventory
- Frequent use of computer
- Inspect and unload incoming shipments, observe and document shortages, refuse bad items, and inform the shipper to replace damaged items and correct shortages
- Forward items to different departments

Requirements
- Ability to interpret packing slips
- Ability to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the processing database and purchase order
- Experience with computer programs
- Forklift experience preferred
- Excellent attendance
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good attitude
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies, safety rules, procedure manuals. Ability to read bill of ladles, invoices and shipping/receiving labels. Neat and effective handwriting. The skills to communicate with multiple departments effectively and professionally.
Mathematical Skills
Basic math skills and basic ruler measurements knowledge
Certifications, Licenses, And Registrations
Forklift certification is preferred but not mandatory
Physical Demands
The physical demands here require the ability to lift 25lbs worth of abrasives materials frequently, 50lbs occasionally and up to 100lbs rarely. Employees must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time during shifts with frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling. Use of dexterity in hands and feet is frequent and intermittent during shift. Occasional interaction with vibrating materials. The ability to correctly wear the personal protective equipment required daily.
Work Environment
Work environment is manufacturing in nature and includes exposure to dust and airborne particles, working near moving mechanical parts, and working with adhesive materials and some chemicals. Overall work environment noise level is medium.
