Job summary

Austin Lighthouse for the Blind is seeking a warehouse associate to support shipping and receiving operations. You will perform clerical and physical tasks, verify incoming and outgoing shipments, and ensure packages are properly labeled and stored.

The role requires adherence to TAB safety guidelines and strong teamwork. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate good verbal and written communication, multitasking ability, and reliability in a busy warehouse

  • Verify orders against documents and ensure proper packaging and labeling.

Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door.

  • Performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods and receiving incoming shipments.
  • Handle unusual non-routine problems, receives specific guidance from supervisor or other officials.
  • Removing material from storage racks and preparing it for shipment.

  • Shipping duties typically involve the following: Verifying that orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for shipment against documents; ensuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and loaded into transporting vehicles; and preparing and keeping records of goods shipped, e.g., manifests, bills of lading.
  • Receiving duties typically involve the following: Verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records; checking for damaged goods; insuring that goods are appropriately identified for routing to departments within the establishment; preparing and keeping records of goods received.
  • Complies with and assists other employees understand and comply with TAB's Safety and Security policies and guidelines.

Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:

  • Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 4-8 hours
  • Have strong dexterity capabilities to grasp, assemble, and manipulate objects
  • Ability to stand for 7-8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift/move up to 10-35 lbs. at times
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 50% of time

Ability to work in extreme conditions with varying temperature, including cold and/or heat
