Job summary

voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak LLC in Decatur, Illinois, seeks a Shipping Material Handler to keep yards organized and manage shipping, receiving, and forklift loading/unloading. You will verify shipments, pick orders, and support material flow.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, 1–3 months related experience, ability to read work orders/blueprints, measuring tools experience, basic math, and a valid forklift certification or eligibility plus Illinois driver’s license;

Responsibilities

  • Transport product between buildings.
  • Keep shipping areas organized and free of clutter; maintain clear aisles.
  • Load and unload trucks by forklift.
  • Verify accuracy of shipments (Part #, Serial #, Quantities, Weights).
  • Pick orders by referencing Plant Backlog.
  • Move incoming material to designated departments or warehouse locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (sweep, trash, sort, repack).
  • Organize and store or dispose of barrels, skids, and clutter outside building.
  • Pull and store finished goods and maintain inventory.
  • Follow safety, environmental, and quality policies.

We are looking for a Shipping Material Handler to join our team in Decatur, Illinois.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting directly to the Department Supervisor, the Shipping Material Handler is responsible to keep yard and other storage locations in order, along with shipping, receiving, loading and unloading trucks.

Task and Responsibilities
  • Transport product between buildings.
  • Keep shipping areas organized, clean, and free of clutter; maintain clear aisles.
  • Load and unload trucks by forklift.
  • Verify accuracy of shipments (Part #, Serial #, Quantities, Weights, etc.).
  • Pick orders by referencing Plant Backlog.
  • Move incoming material to designated departments, or warehouse location.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by lead, coordinator or supervisor; i.e. sweep, empty trash, break down cardboard, sort skids, repackage/stage material for shipment, etc.
  • Organize and store or dispose of barrels, skids and other items that clutter outside of building.
  • Pull and store finished goods and maintain finished goods.
  • Comply with the Company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Nortrak’s Environmental, Safety and Quality Procedures, Practices and Policies.
Job Requirements (e.g. education, experience, skills and desired competencies)
  • High School graduate or GED preferred; or
  • One to three months related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read work orders and blueprints preferred.
  • Experience with measuring tools preferred.
  • Basic mathematical calculation experience in adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with office staff, management and supervisors.
  • Must possess the ability to multitask.
  • Must be able to be flexible with work schedule when necessary.
  • Must have organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must hold a forklift certification or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • Must be able to be insurable under company's insurance.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing, pulling, or lifting objects for the duration of your required schedule shift.
  • Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach for the duration of your required scheduled shift.
  • Regularly lift and carry 30-35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Hearing abilities necessary to perform job tasks safely and effectively.

Salary
  • $22.50/hr - $24.70/hr
