Job summary

Pratt Industries seeks a supervisor to oversee forklift operations, load planning, and shipping duties in our Alabama facility. You will supervise Load Planner and Forklift Operators, coordinate with the plant scheduler, and ensure on-time delivery while maximizing trailer efficiency.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, forklift and shipping experience, and a proven ability to lead teams, enforce safety, and drive cost and quality goals in a corrugated packaging environment.

• Two years’ experience as a Forklift Operator.
• One-year shipping experience.
• College and/or related technical experience preferred.
• One-year supervisory experience managing at least five people.
• Four years’ experience in the corrugated box industry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Load Planner to ensure Orders are planned for 100% On Time Delivery and Maximum Trailer efficiency.
• Supervise Forklift Operators in daily loading activities to customer satisfaction.
• Attend daily Scheduling Meeting and assist the Plant Scheduler in meeting customer requirements.
• Prepare work orders and coordinate repairs of trucks, trailers, forklifts, dock plates, and dock doors.
• Coordinate with Sales Service the delivery of customer orders on time.
• Keep upper management informed of issues affecting department performance.
• Enforce corrective actions and conduct meetings with employees and union representatives.
• Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with department personnel.
• Adhere to production schedules and propose improvements to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals.
• Communicate with supervision to avoid problems during shift changes.
• Pursue ongoing career development through seminars and courses with manager approval.

SUMMARY

Supervise forklift operators, Load Planner and handle all aspects of overseeing shipping duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise Load Planner to ensure Orders are planned for 100% On Time Delivery and Maximum Trailer efficiency.
• Supervise Forklift Operators in the daily routine of loading trucks neatly and to the customer’s complete satisfaction.
• Attend daily Scheduling Meeting and assist the Plant Scheduler in meeting our customers’ requirements.
• Prepare work orders for and coordinate repairs of trucks, trailers, forklifts, dock plates, and dock doors.
• Coordinate with Sales Service the delivery of the customer orders on time.
• Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect the performance of your department.
• Enforce corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees and union representatives.
• Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
• Adheres to daily production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals.
• Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
• Improve career skills by enrolling yourself in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses, with approval of your manager.
• Establish high morale within department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Maintain confidentiality.
• Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including union contract safety program, and good housekeeping.
• Additional duties may be assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises all employees assigned to the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints and resolving problems; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude and performance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED.

Two years’ experience as a Forklift Operator.

One-year shipping experience.

Candidates arePREFERREDwho offer the following:

College and/or related technical experience.

One-year supervisory experience as a proven manager of at least five people.

Four years’ experience in the corrugated box industry.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.

Cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.

Quality standards.

Regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ and EEO.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
