Job summary

Pratt Industries is seeking a Shipping Dock Hand to support loading dock operations at our Statesville, NC facility. Responsibilities include lockout/tagout compliance, operating dock levelers, trailer inspections, and assisting in additional shipping tasks under supervision.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, strong safety record, and ability to lift and handle materials. Overtime, weekend shifts, and background checks may be required.

  • Candidate should be able to pass a physical, drug screen and background check.
  • Preferred: experience in corrugated packaging or manufacturing environments.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures on loading docks.
  • Operate dock leveler assemblies as needed.
  • Inspect and clean trailers as required.
  • Support other shipping activities under supervision.
  • Follow safety policies and maintain housekeeping.

POSITION TITLE: Shipping Dock Hand

SUMMARY

Responsible for Performing Lockout/Tagout functions (per specified procedures) for all loading docks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for Performing Lockout/Tagout functions (per specified procedures) for all loading docks.

Operate dock leveler assemblies as necessary.

Inspect/clean out trailers as necessary.

Assist in other shipping activities as directed by the Shipping Supervisor.

Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.

Additional duties may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED.

Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:

Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.

Candidate must have some flexibility to work overtime including weekends based on business needs.

Must be able to successfully pass a physical, drug screen and background check.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Following directions under limited supervision;
  • Ability to learn manufacturing principles and practices;
  • Performing basic mathematical calculations and read a tape measure;
  • Lifting and loading materials;
  • Complying with safety and operational guidelines, policies, and procedures;Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

The performance of the employee will be measured as follows:

Operating standards - the employee will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards in the areas of quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction and productivity. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the employee.

Personal growth - while the company will provide the tools to assist the employee to grow professionally the responsibility for moving forward lies with the individual. Each year there will be goals developed and agreed to by the employee and his/her superior.
