JOB TITLE: SHIPPING INTERNSHIP - MALAGA
LOCATION: BAKERSFIELD AREA
REPORTS TO: DEPARTMENT MANAGER
PURPOSE: The Shipping Internship is designed to provide undergraduate, post-graduate, and graduate-level students pursuing relevant fields of study with meaningful, hands-on experience supporting shipping and distribution operations. Interns will gain exposure to day-to-day shipping activities, shipment coordination, operational data, process improvement, and emerging technologies, including opportunities to explore how artificial intelligence can improve shipping processes and efficiency. The paid summer internship typically runs 10-12 weeks between May and August, with support available for students seeking college credit.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate, post-graduate, or graduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment sponsorship.
- Interest in shipping, distribution, supply chain, operations, process improvement, automation, artificial intelligence, or the fresh produce/agriculture industry.
- Interest in or exposure to AI tools, automation, programming, data analytics, or technology-based process improvement preferred.
- Basic understanding of supply chain, shipping, transportation, or business operations preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Comfortable working with operational data and spreadsheets to organize information, identify trends, and assist with reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing operational priorities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an office and operational environment.
- Reliable transportation to assigned work location(s) and company facilities as required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets company policy, insurance, and DMV requirements.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment screening consistent with applicable state and federal law.
- Ability to participate in the 10-12 week summer internship program, including Student Programs-sponsored professional development activities and intern events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support day-to-day Shipping operations and department projects while gaining exposure to the movement of finished products from Grimmway facilities to customers.
- Assist with monitoring shipment activity, schedules, documentation, and other information needed to support timely and accurate product movement.
- Collect, organize, and analyze shipping and operational data to identify trends, exceptions, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with maintaining accurate shipping records, reports, and documentation.
- Work with Shipping team members to understand current workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, communication, and shipment visibility.
- Support the research, development, or testing of AI-assisted tools and solutions that may improve Shipping processes, reporting, tracking, communication, or operational decision-making.
- Assist with documenting current processes and evaluating opportunities where automation or AI could reduce manual work and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Shipping, Logistics, Sales, Production, Warehouse, Information Technology, and other cross-functional teams as needed to support product movement and customer requirements.
- Assist with preparing reports, spreadsheets, presentations, process documentation, and other materials related to Shipping operations and improvement initiatives.
- Gain exposure to shipping facilities, operational workflows, product movement, transportation requirements, and the systems used to support Shipping activities.
- Apply knowledge gained throughout the internship to a meaningful department-specific project, which may include developing or evaluating an AI-assisted solution for a Shipping business need, with the opportunity to present findings, results, or recommendations at the conclusion of the internship.
- Participate in Student Programs-sponsored professional development and intern events throughout the summer internship.
- Serve as a site representative for the annual Back-to-School Drive, supporting coordination and employee participation efforts.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
STARTING WAGE: $18.25 - $22.75 (dependent on college standing)
