Job summary

Etna Supply in Wixom, MI, is seeking a Shipping Coordinator to oversee the delivery and shipping department, coordinating with customers, sales, customer service, and branch personnel to support daily operations and timely deliveries.

The role requires ability to read maps, manage truck routes, and handle shipping issues, with a focus on accuracy and safety. A high school diploma and related experience are preferred, with room for growth in a stable, long-term company.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; related experience preferred.
• Experience in plumbing, waterworks, distribution, logistics, or dispatching is preferred.
• DOT/FMCSA regulations knowledge beneficial.
• Comfort reading maps and using GPS for routing.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shipping operations in coordination with customers, sales, and warehouse staff.
• Assist with truck routing and delivery schedules to meet customer expectations.
• Handle shipping and delivery inquiries from internal teams and customers.
• Route local trucks and drivers and prioritize delivery runs.
• Coordinate special deliveries and load add-ons onto trucks.
• Maintain organized staging areas and ensure safe, accurate deliveries.
• Provide backup support to warehouse and counter operations as needed.

Shipping Coordinator position assists with overseeing the delivery and shipping department. This role works closely with customers, sales personnel, customer service, branch personnel, warehouse staff, and drivers to support daily shipping operations, coordinate truck routing, address shipping issues, maintain an organized staging area, and ensure accurate and timely deliveries.

• Meet or exceed customer expectations by providing positive customer experience.
• Assist with overseeing daily truck runs and delivery schedules.
• Handle calls regarding shipping and delivery issues from customers, sales personnel, customer service, and branch personnel.
• Route local trucks and drivers.
• Organize and prioritize delivery runs.
• Coordinate FIRE deliveries and transport materials to M&E Fire operations.
• Ensure add-on orders are properly assigned and loaded onto trucks.
• Assist with emergency and priority deliveries.
• Monitor and work back-order reports.
• Track and assign job trailers.
• Pull and verify customer orders for accuracy.
• Load trucks safely and efficiently.
• Coordinate vehicle and trailer repairs with the maintenance department.
• Maintain an organized and effective staging area.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Provide backup support to warehouse and counter operations as needed.

Knowledge & Skills

• Working knowledge of company products, processes, and distribution operations.
• Understanding of DOT and FMCSA requirements, as well as state and local transportation regulations.
• Ability to read maps and utilize GPS technology effectively.
• Knowledge of local roads and customer locations within the service area.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication, teamwork, customer service, and organizational skills.
• Sound judgment and effective problem-solving abilities.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent; or
• Six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in plumbing, waterworks, distribution, logistics, or dispatching is preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

• Ability to pass operator exam and safely operate powered industrial equipment.
• Valid Chauffeur's License (or willingness to obtain one) and an acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Frequently required to walk, stand, talk, hear, grasp, handle, reach, and use fingers.
• Regularly required to sit, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must perform essential job functions safely and with consistent alertness.
• Vision requirements include near and far vision.
• Work is performed primarily indoors with occasional outdoor exposure to extreme weather conditions.
• Noise levels are generally moderate.
