Job summary

Gibraltar Building Products in the United States seeks a Shipping Coordinator to ensure daily operational excellence in the shipping department, manage shipping/receiving transactions, schedule ship dates from production and inventory data, and collaborate with Production, Traffic, Sales and Operations.

The candidate will maintain accurate shipping records, use ERP or shipping systems, support environment and safety policies including OSHA, and drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency

Position Summary

The Shipping Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring daily operational excellence, safety compliance, and seamless workflow management within the shipping department. This position is responsible for processing shipping and receiving transactions, coordinating interplant transfers, and accurately scheduling ship dates based on production and inventory data. A key focus is collaborating across internal teams—including Production, Traffic, Sales, and Operations—to optimize shipping capacity, resolve order issues, and maintain clear communication regarding delivery status. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, excellent multitasking skills, and a continuous improvement mindset to drive departmental efficiency.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies.
  • Maintain adherence to OSHA requirements.
  • Follow all environmental regulations.
  • Ensure shipping documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Support compliance with shipping procedures and internal controls.
Delivery & Customer Excellence
  • Determine order ship dates based on production schedules.
  • Coordinate ship dates based on inventory availability.
  • Communicate shipping status, delays, and changes with internal departments.
  • Process plant backorders efficiently.
  • Coordinate back-order resolution with Sales and Operations teams.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Process daily shipping, receiving, and interplant transfer transactions.
  • Oversee daily shipping, receiving, and interplant transfer transactions.
  • Actively participate in identifying operational improvements.
  • Implement improvements to drive departmental efficiency.
  • Manage shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
Quality & Inventory Management
  • Maintain high transactional accuracy across all shipping records.
  • Ensure close attention to detail in tracking goods.
  • Utilize ERP or shipping systems to manage logistics data.
Business Partnership
  • Review shipping capacity with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Production and Traffic teams to ensure shipping efficiency.
  • Support planning efforts to balance workload.
  • Partner across departments to meet delivery timelines.
Required
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school or GED required.
  • Prior experience in shipping, logistics, or manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with other departments, ex production, traffic, and sales departments
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and shifting priorities
Preferred
  • Proficiency with ERP or shipping systems.
  • Proven tracking of managing logistics documentation and transaction accuracy.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements and environmental regulations.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills

Work Conditions

This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments.

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment, forklifts, and warehouse traffic.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures and manufacturing conditions.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
  • Moderate to high noise levels are common in production areas.
