The Shipping Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all outbound shipping operations within the plant, ensuring finished goods are processed, documented, and dispatched accurately and on time. This role coordinates daily activities through the Shipping Team Leader, maintains compliance with customer and regulatory requirements, and ensures efficient flow from production to customer delivery.
Reporting
Accountable to the Shipping Assistant Manager.
Responsibilities
- Support ATA efforts to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in cooperation with G-TEKT CSR and corporate governance initiatives to ensure compliance in functional areas.
- Implement activities to improve ATA business operations using a strategy of steady compliance, meeting challenges of the changed legal and business environment, and enhancing the trust of ATA among customers, associates, and society.
- Lead and support the Shipping Team Leader and shipping associates with clear direction, expectations, and accountability.
- Negotiate priorities with production supervisors and balance customer urgency with plant constraints.
- Problem‑solve and make decisions under pressure; coach, mentor, and develop team members to improve performance and promote accountability, teamwork, and a safety‑first work environment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and reinforce a culture of efficiency.
- Escalate issues to upper management with solutions, keeping communication and priorities clear for each shift.
- Model proper, respectful, and courteous communication with all associates and guests.
- Maintain a customer‑focused mindset with strong sense of urgency, ensuring 100% on‑time delivery in alignment with shipping schedules and EDI releases.
- Respond quickly to delivery risks, shortages, or premium freight situations, and communicate effectively with all departments, associates, and customers.
- Support customer‑specific requirements such as labeling, ASN accuracy, and packaging standards.
- Ensure facility and forklift safety around all associates, comply with OSHA forklift regulations, and support ISO‑9001/ISO‑14001 requirements.
- Assist in maintaining physical inventory accuracy and anticipate potential delays, implementing contingency plans to protect service levels.
- Knowledge of shipping, warehouse, and logistics processes; plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple shipments in a JIT/JIS environment.
- Manage transport of production between manufacturing teams, enforce FIFO, inventory control, and material handling, and ensure compliance with documentation, labeling, and regulatory standards.
- Use data and KPIs to monitor performance, identify inefficiencies, and drive process improvements.
- Other duties assigned by the Shipping Managers.
Leadership
- Supports Shipping Team Leader and shipping associates with clear direction and expectations.
- Holds the Team Leader accountable, negotiates priorities with production supervisors, and maintains communication for each shift.
- Coaches, mentors, and develops team members; promotes accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Balances customer urgency with plant constraints and escalates issues to upper management with solutions.
- Models respectful and courteous communication with all associates and guests.
Service
- Ensures 100% on‑time delivery and responds quickly to delivery risks or shortages.
- Communicates effective with all departments, associates, customers, and carriers regarding shipment status, risks, and resolutions.
- Supports customer‑specific requirements (labeling, ASN accuracy, packaging standards).
- Ensures facility safety and forklift safety; supports ISO‑9001/ISO‑14001 requirements.
- Builds strong working relationships and maintains responsiveness and professionalism.
- Anticipates potential delays and implements contingency plans.
Operations
- Knowledge of shipping, warehouse, and logistics processes; ability to manage workflow, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Experience with ERP/WMS systems and shipping documentation; maintains accuracy of shipments including part numbers, quantities, labels, and paperwork.
- Lead daily activities including staging, loading, and documentation; ensure compliance with FIFO, inventory control, and material handling.
- Ensure timely disposal of scrap materials, facilitate trailer changes, and maintain cleanliness near the trash compactor.
- Enforce 5S within the shipping and dock area; promote efficient warehouse operations.
- Use data and KPIs to monitor performance, identify inefficiencies, and drive process improvements.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods (8‑12hrs).
- Lift up to 75lbs. regularly and perform repetitive movements such as bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Work in an automotive manufacturing facility with exposure to moving equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Wear required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel‑toe boots).
- Work in a fast‑paced environment.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field OR 3–5 years equivalent experience in shipping/logistics, preferably in automotive manufacturing.
- 3–5+ years of experience in shipping/logistics, preferably in automotive manufacturing.
- Forklift experience or certification required or ability to obtain.
- Experience supervising or coordinating teams in a fast‑paced environment.
- Familiarity with EDI, ASN processes, ERP or warehouse management systems.
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in transportation coordination.
