EMJ, a leading supplier of steel and aluminum products, seeks a Shipping Clerk to coordinate shipments, inspect items, and maintain records. The role supports warehouse operations and liaises with carriers, internal teams, and customers to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and procedural compliance.

The position is in the Delivery department and reports to the Plant Operations leadership. Expect hands-on duties, safety focus, and collaboration across teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment (training provided).
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Check products for defects and accuracy.
• Handle incoming and outgoing shipments and verify items physically.
• Post outbound deliveries using designated software.
• Package items securely for shipment and ensure proper labeling.
• Verify serial and batch numbers against product records.
• Pull, pack, and ship finished goods and customer orders.
• Receive and inspect incoming shipments and verify accuracy.
• Record all transactions accurately in the company database.
• Coordinate storage space for incoming shipments.
• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment.
• Conduct cycle counting and participate in inventory procedures.
• Route shipments to appropriate departments and maintain shipping records.
• Independent decision-making is required for customer-related matters.

Job Summary

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating and executing all functions related to the shipment and receipt of goods. This includes preparing shipping documents, inspecting shipments, maintaining accurate records, ensuring proper labeling and packaging, and supporting warehouse operations. The role involves collaboration with internal departments, carriers, and customers to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company standards and procedures.

• Prepare invoices and delivery orders, and apply labels as needed.

• Ensure safe and timely loading of shipment vehicles.

• Operate forklifts to transport shipments to pallets and loading areas.

• Coordinate storage space for incoming shipments.

• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment.

• Conduct cycle counting and participate in inventory procedures.

• Determine consignment methods using knowledge of routes and shipping procedures.

• Arrange carrier pickups and prepare shipping records and logs.

• Trace lost or missing shipments and maintain shipping documentation.

• Assemble or select appropriate containers for shipping.

• Authenticate and record shipment receipts alongside documentation.

• Route shipments to appropriate departments and maintain shipping records.

• Independent decision-making is required, particularly when handling customer-related matters.

• High concentration is necessary to avoid errors affecting department workflow.

• Accuracy is essential for documentation and shipment matching.

• Frequent interaction with supervisors, coworkers, and occasionally the general public is expected.

Compensation Range
