Job description

The operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace. Rotates stock so oldest materials are used first. Notes and reports any damaged cartons, crates, or containers. Records items added or removed from inventory.

Shipment Preparation and Storage

1. Prepares products for shipment by retrieving the designated product and ensuring it is properly loaded and sealed correctly.
2. Stores product using an industrial forklift and employs a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
3. Operates forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload products on or from trailers, following department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.

Equipment Maintenance and Safety

1. Performs minor service on equipment and completes daily safety inspections, reporting issues to supervisors.
2. Responsible for changing batteries or fuel bottles, refueling forklifts, and troubleshooting repairs as needed.

Work Area and Inventory Management

1. Maintains a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment, adhering to storage principles and suggesting improvements.
2. Creates product labels, reads and understands lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
3. Completes reports and inputs information into computer systems efficiently and accurately.

Tools and Pallet Handling

1. Uses basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses.
2. Consolidates partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.

Forklift Operation and Safety

1. Maneuvers forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work environment for all team members.

Team Participation and Organizational Principles

1. Participates actively in team development, communication, and implementation of team policies.
2. Attends team meetings and supports organizational cohesiveness and synergy.

System and Policy Awareness

1. Familiar with Simmons' operating systems and understands the importance of maintaining system integrity and communication of concerns.

Additional Duties

1. Performs other duties supporting business objectives, demonstrating flexibility and creativity beyond defined tasks.

Physical Requirements

1. Climbs on/off forklifts, maneuvers in tight spaces, lifts up to 75 lbs, and works in extreme temperatures and environments.

Personal Protective Equipment

1. Uses PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, boots, aprons, and hearing protection as required.

Technical and Industry Experience

1. Knowledge of Julian calendar, FIFO practices, RFGEN, JDE, and experience in shipping/receiving preferred.
2. Basic computer literacy and understanding of military time.

Education and Certification

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent, with the ability to perform basic math, obtain forklift license, and read/write in English.
