Responsibilities include operating Yard Dog and forklifts, receiving and staging materials, loading/unloading trucks, and ensuring accurate labeling and packaging of finished goods. A commitment to safety and teamwork is essential.

Split-Shift Shipping Clerk / Material Handler (Primary Yard Dog Operator)

Role Purpose

The Split-Shift Shipping Clerk / Material Handler is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient flow of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods throughout the facility. This position ensures production areas are supplied with necessary materials, finished goods are properly stored and shipped, and inventory movement is accurately documented. The role requires safe operation of material handling equipment, including forklifts and the Yard Dog, while supporting production schedules, quality standards, safety requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safety
• Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
• Keep green walkways and designated traffic areas clear at all times.
• Complete daily forklift and equipment inspections.
• Immediately report safety hazards, incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
• Properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Production & Schedule Support
• Review the production schedule at the beginning of each shift.
• Ensure materials, space, and resources are available to support scheduled production.
• Report scheduling delays, shortages, or obstacles that may impact production attainment.
• Communicate schedule deviations and operational concerns to supervisors in a timely manner.
• Space

• Material Handling of Raw material
• Deliver raw materials to production areas according to production requirements.
• Return unused materials to designated storage locations.
• Stock production lines with required packaging materials.

• Finished Goods & Shipping
• Verify finished goods labels for accuracy.
• Inspect finished goods for damage and proper packaging.
• Place products requiring rework in the designated Quality Hold area.
• Notify supervision when storage or quality hold areas reach capacity.
• Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.
• Prepare completed shipments according to company procedures.
• Receiving
• Receive and verify incoming materials against shipping documents.
• Ensure received materials are accurately identified and properly stored.
• Report receiving discrepancies, damaged shipments, or inventory concerns.
• Yard Dog Operations
• Operate the Yard Dog to perform internal trailer movements and transfers.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections of Yard Dog equipment.
• Follow all company and DOT safety requirements applicable to yard operations.
• Coordinate trailer movements to support shipping, receiving, and production needs.
• Inventory Control
• Review material consumption logs and inventory records as required.
• Support inventory accuracy through proper material transactions and movements.
• Report inventory discrepancies and abnormalities to supervision.
• Assist with month-end inventory and closing activities.
• Quality
• Identify and report product, material, equipment, or process concerns.
• Ensure materials are properly identified and handled according to quality requirements.
• Verify scrap materials are properly approved, labeled, and moved to designated scrap areas.
• Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in 5S activities and workplace organization projects.
• Assist with cross-training and process improvement efforts.
• Recommend opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and material flow.
• Additional Responsibilities

Requirements

• Ability to receive yard dog certification and drive a yard dog is required.
• Previousfactory experiencepreferred.
• Shipping / Material Handling experience preferred.

• Bilingual is preferred.

• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, including exposure to varying weather conditions while performing yard operations.
• Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and material handling equipment.
