Job summary

Valmont Industries in Jasper, TN is seeking a Warehouse Associate to move freight, stock, and load finished goods onto trucks. You will read product specs, verify identification by size and gauge, and support inventory accuracy while coordinating with the shipping team.

Responsibilities include operating forklifts and hand tools, performing safety checks, and assisting with cycle counts. Overtime may be required in a fast-paced environment.

A Brief Summary of This Position

Manually moves freight, stock, or other materials. Loads finished goods on to trucks. Understand all documents pertaining to storage, setting up and load. Maintains housekeeping in areas, observes all safety rules to company standards. Understands and participates in accurate department inventory and product staging procedures. Responsible for the checking of the proper identification of material being shipped by size, gauge, length, count and quality. Operates various forklifts, flat bed trucks and a variety of hand tools. Associate will also be expected to pick orders, manage inventory within a database and create BOLs (bills of lading).

Essential Functions
  • Load product per shipping orders and pick sheet
  • Operate various equipment including fork lift, flat bed trucks (yard dogs) and hand tools
  • Report any unsafe conditions to supervisor
  • Handle scrap from all departments as required and control the flow of scrap trailers
  • Assist with cycle counts and material handling moves from staging to storage monthly
  • Prepping poles for finisher (i.e. installing pole caps, throwing dunnage, nailing blocks, banding loads, banding pallets of goods, shrink wrapping pallets, installing barcode tags, etc.)
  • Installing access covers for Bridge product and rivnuts
Important Details about the Role

This position is also responsible for reporting any unsafe conditions to supervisor. Perform daily Forklift and truck safety/inspection checks as required. This position reports into the Shipping Supervisor and has no direct reports and no indirect reports. Must be able to work either independently and/or in a team environment.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Ability to accurately read tape measures
  • Ability to stand 90% of time
  • Able to work outside in extreme heat or cold
  • Able to operate forklifts, flat bed trucks and hand tools
  • Must be accurate in logging inventory transactions in a variety of formats
  • The ability to work overtime when required for business needs
  • Must be forklift certified by the company
  • Be able to work in fast paced high volume environment

Job Training Skill Development
  • Must have ability to operate forklift, hand tools and yard truck.
  • Must be able to back up yard truck with a 40' - 50' trailer on.
  • Must be able to identify product size and gauge.
  • Must be able to understand and follow division standard loading procedures and have a knowledge of loading materials, various types of trailers, accurately filling out pick sheets, creating pole lists, logging shop orders and shipping orders.
Decision Making
  • Identify proper loading as per loading instructions.
  • Identify quality problems and bring to attention of supervisor.
  • Resolve identification problems and equipment problems and notify supervisor.
  • Must stage trailers with easy access to material being loaded.
  • Ensure proper safety precautions are used during loading.
EFFORT Working Conditions, Hazards, and Physical Effort

The job is performed exclusively in an outdoor environment. The temperature range can vary. Most operations may expose associate to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Exposure to grease, loud noises, and outside elements occur continually or regularly. Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel in the area of operations especially when performing setups. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times, where appropriate. The associate must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The associate must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.
