Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat is hiring for skilled fabricators in North Kingstown, RI. The role involves layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages for submarine construction.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent (or 2+ years of related technical experience) and the ability to work all shifts, read blueprints, and use basic hand tools in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to work all shifts.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and extreme temperatures as required.
• Ability to interpret manuals, shipyard procedures, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions.
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages.
• Developing working knowledge of weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations.
• Aligning parts using jacks, clips and wedges from blueprints and templates.
• Tack-welding structural parts as required.
• Using hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade.
• Read and interpret company drawings, documents, and procedures.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages
• Developing a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations
• Aligning parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips and wedges through use of blueprints and templates
• Tack-welding structural parts as required
• Utilizing hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade
• Ability to read and interpret written policies, procedures and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
• Basic Mathematic ability

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent OR 2 plus years of related technical experience
• Available to work all shifts
• Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools

Preferred:

• Steel fabrication or carpentry experience
• Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
• Basic mathematical skills
• Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
• Military/Navy experience
