Job summary

Aerotek is hiring a Shipfitter in Oceanside, CA on a 1st shift, contract-to-hire basis. The role focuses on laying out and fabricating aluminum parts for ship hulls, using blueprints, scribe tools, and hand tools for accurate placement and assembly.

Typical duties include cutting, drilling, riveting or welding prep, following blueprints, and operating shop machinery. The position offers a stable schedule and onsite work at Camp Pendleton area facilities.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in reading blueprints and layouts.
• Minimum of 2 years of Finish Carpentry experience.
• Ability to use hand tools for marking and drilling.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Shipfitter to lay out and fabricate aluminum parts, including plates, bulkheads, frames, and braces, within the hull of a ship for riveting or welding. You will work from blueprints or templates, using a scribe and hand tools to lay out positions and install temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting.

Responsibilities

• Lay out positions of aluminum parts using blueprints or templates.

• Utilize hand tools to scribe and mark locations for drilling holes.

• Install temporary fasteners to secure parts for welding or riveting.

• Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts using shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, and bending brakes.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in using measuring tape, level, square, and skilsaw.

• Strong understanding and ability to work with blueprints.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Finish Carpentry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with fabrication and hand tools.

• Knowledge of carpentry and finishing techniques.

Work Environment

Located at ACU 5, LCAC Shipyard, you will work in a professional and well-equipped facility. The work schedule consists of first shift hours from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, or 5:00 am to 1:30 pm.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
