Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in a technical discipline.
  • Minimum five years in shipbuilding, ship repair, or related field.
  • Demonstrated FCAW & SMAW 3F/4F qualification test.
  • Solid knowledge of shipbuilding operations, fabrication and assembly.
  • Experience with curriculum development preferred.
  • MS Office proficiency required.
  • Completion of registered apprenticeship program.
  • Involvement with Joint Apprenticeship Committee required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in shipbuilding disciplines.
  • Instruct trainees on shipyard safety procedures and standards.
  • Develop and implement shipbuilding training curriculum aligned with industry standards.
  • Oversee apprentice progress when assigned to Production (Roving Instructor).
  • Support Apprenticeship Program activities (JAC reviews, data collection, interviews, recruiting).
  • Engage in outreach events to promote shipbuilding career pathways.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and individualized support to apprentices.
  • Introduce innovative instructional methods (simulation, project-based learning).
