Job summary

R&P Technologies seeks a motivated mid-level Electrical Power Controls Engineer to join a defense-focused team. You will design, test, troubleshoot, and sustain electrical control systems and power distribution architectures for Navy ship programs, with emphasis on PLC/HMI development, control logic, and system integration.

The role involves collaboration with Navy laboratories, shipyards, and field sites, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years in electrical engineering, control systems, automation, or related work.
  • Experience with Ladder Logic PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Modicon, Siemens).
  • Experience developing or modifying HMI interfaces.
  • Knowledge of electrical controls, automation systems, power generation/distribution, and system integration.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical docs.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, controls, and power equipment.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and project coordination skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and troubleshoot electrical control systems for Navy/defense applications.
  • Program and modify PLC logic and HMI interfaces for legacy and new systems.
  • Support integration of shipboard power generation, distribution, and auxiliary equipment control.
  • Troubleshoot PLC logic, I/O signals, sensors, relays, motor controllers, and networked devices.
  • Support testing in lab, shipyard, land-based sites, and shipboard environments.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, and reports for system verification and validation.
  • Review requirements, interface docs, drawings, and specs for system integration.
  • Coordinate with Government customers, engineering leads, vendors, and teams.
  • Support root-cause analyses, configuration reviews, and engineering recommendations.
