Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division seeks an electrician with 1–3 years of experience in commercial, residential, industrial, or marine settings to join the X31 ELECTRICAL team. The role covers installation, repair, overhaul, and testing of electrical systems aboard ships, reading schematics, and switching between tasks across lighting, power distribution, and navigation.

Candidates must pass background checks and drug screens, lift at least 40 lbs, perform overhead work, and work outdoors

Qualifications

• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must be able to pass a physical agility test.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb daily.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Must be able to perform overhead work.
• Must be able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, overhaul, and test electrical systems aboard ships.
• Read and interpret complex electrical schematics.
• Switch between tasks across lighting, power distribution, and navigation systems.
