Job description

Overview

General:

The M.C. Dean, Inc. Maritime Division works at shipyards worldwide from regional offices in San Diego, CA, and Chesapeake, VA. Join our Alteration Installation Teams supporting C4ISR system installations on ships and submarines. Be part of the top waterfront team with excellent compensation and benefits.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-4 years of applicable welding experience
  • ASNT NDT Level III Certification preferred
  • Additional relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Welding Supervisor or AWS Certified Weld Inspector preferred

Skills and Proficiencies:

  • Interpret specifications and shipboard drawings
  • Operate ARC and gas welding equipment for fabrication and repairs
  • Weld in all positions and metals, including pipes, plates, and structural forms
  • Perform thermal cutting and grinding
  • Repair and modify metal parts
  • Exhibit supervisory and leadership skills

Safety and Physical Requirements:

  • Occupation Safety Haz-Mat Certification
  • Shipyard Competent Person Certification
  • Aloft/Climbing Certification
  • Confined Spaces Certification
  • Ability to lift/move objects of 50 lbs

Security and Work Locations:

  • Primarily in San Diego, CA, and Norfolk, VA, with travel to other US shipyards and Navy ports
  • US Citizenship required for clearance eligibility
  • Background check required
  • Valid driver's license required

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work overtime as needed
  • Maintain equipment and inventory
  • Organize and schedule welding jobs

Pay Range: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting at least 100 lbs at once, 60 lbs for extended periods
  • Climbing ladders, working at heights up to 60 feet
  • Routine walking, climbing, lifting, and other physical activities
  • Good vision, color perception, hearing, and communication skills

Travel Locations:

Possible locations include San Diego, Vallejo, Everett, Seattle, Portland, Groton, Mayport, Panama City, Charleston, Pearl Harbor, Earl, and Guam, among others.
